And, of course, the HuC6280 in the TG-16 is 8-bit.

2 8-bit processors. 8 + 8 = 16 bits according to NEC.TheSonicRetard wrote:

The bit-wars are won again.

Seems like you don't value video game craftmanship very much. Like I said, the level design is excellent. I hate pandering to casuals as much as the next guy, but it's undeniable that the Uncharted games deliver a very enjoyable gameplay experience. Designing those levels and events so that they make a marvelous spectacle with out having stages that are hard to navigate though that aren't reliant on trial and error takes skill.Gamerforlife wrote: Meh. There are tons of companies filled with tons of programmers who can do that stuff. They're not special or unique and that doesn't impress me
And no, most game developers can't push out as gorgeous looking games as Naughty Dog. Even if you hate "realistic graphics", Uncharted is not the first time Naughty Dog pushed the envlope. Both the first Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter games had cartoony graphics and were technical leaps back when they were new.
Unchared isn't copying anything. There weren't any games like it on the market when it came out back in 2007. In fact Tomb Raider, the franchise that copied Indiana Jones way before Uncharted, is now trying to copy the gameplay experience of Uncharted in the newest game.Gamerforlife wrote:People like Femito Ueda with unique vision who aren't copying everything else on the market, they impress me. And in the grand scheme of themes, they matter more.
You can hate movie games all you want, but it's ignorant to state that the Uncharted series isn't influental or innovative in it's field. The same can be said about Heavy Rain.
Fumito Ueda has said that Another World inspired him to do ICO and that Half Life 2 inspired him to do The Last Guardian. I guess he isn't a visionary anymore?
TG16 really doesn't compare to SNES/Genesis. PC Engine does, but it's an import console. The same thing applies to Amiga and Atari ST, as they were more prominent in EU. It's kind of like revisionist history. But yes, if you want the full picture of that gaming era, you need SNES, Genesis, PC Engine, Amiga and Atari ST. In the international picture, those were the major players. Then there's the more obscure systems like X68000, FM Towns Marty, CD32, Neo Geo (*), CDi and 3DO that are less relevant.TheSonicRetard wrote:Still not getting the full picture without an Amiga thrown into the mix in some capacity. Well said, great summation of that era. If you're limiting yourself to just your own domestic market, you're doing yourself a disservice. The international gaming picture was awesome during that era.Menegrothx wrote:TG16 really doesn't compare to SNES/Genesis. PC Engine does, but it's an import console. The only thing I'd note is that you forgot the Atari Jaguar!
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Menegrothx took the words out of my mouth above. I'm not sure if it hit a nerve because I did two years of game design myself, but yeah. And get this, I hate the Uncharted games. But it's all merely because of its actual game design and mechanics, not the technical achievements and the facts. Whether you, or I like it or not, those games are very impressive in a lot of ways and to refuse to acknowledge some of the accomplishments they've achieved with the games is just crazy. To casually act like the programmers are fodder there just sounded completely disrespectful to me. Chances are many people there too are probably more talented than they give off, but of course are drowned by corporate walls and coats like any big company.
I bitch slap Capcom, Square Enix, and other companies all the time myself, but I never try to attack the teams there personally, like some of the comments above sounded.

Travis McIntosh and Christian Gyrling are the worst programmers of video games ever in the history of time, as well as the universe.Xeogred wrote:I bitch slap Capcom, Square Enix, and other companies all the time myself, but I never try to attack the teams there personally, like some of the comments above sounded.

I like the Atari Jaguar just fine. It had 16 bit shovelware but was very powerful for the time. AvP, Doom, & Wolf3D didn't run well on my PC back then! There's fun to be had on the Jag!
I was still digging through the Dreamcast bargain bins when everyone had moved on to the PS2. While it's cool to like the DC now, it wasn't 6 months after Sega announced they weren't going to support it.
I thought the Sega CD played music along side the cart games (like Peir Solar)
thought it was dumb until I saw my cousin's who got one at launch & my mind was BLOWN. Game on CDs!? My opinion was unpopular until that moment lol.
My new hobby is to read this thread. So funny!

My man! It takes a real against-the-grain opinion to enjoy the Jaguar. I wouldn't say it's full of 16-bit shovelware, but rather that it's home to a ton of pretty great quality Amiga/Atari ST/DOS ports that didn't have as much name power as comparable console games. The Jaguar feels quite a bit closer to a 486 gaming machine than a Genesis or SNES, and that's a great thing.Jagosaurus wrote:I like the Atari Jaguar just fine. Not to mention it has an incredible homebrew scene, and has been home to quite a number of pretty big name post-retail releases, like Worms, Total Carnage, and Barkley Shut up and Jam.
I'm actually writing an article for Racketboy on Atari in general, with the Jaguar being the main focus of the article. Collecting for the system has really given me a greater appreciation for what the Jaguar has to offer. With a pro controller, a catbox, and a CD unit, the Jaguar is quite serviceable.

IIRC there's a pair of those super rare Atari Jaguar Virtual reality glasses on sale at eBay or some other auction site at the moment.

I don't see why early CD based systems don't have more homebrew games. There's no copy protection so it's as easy as burning the game on a CD-R. I mean what's stopping from people making some awesome games for the Sega CD? A lot of the Sega CD library consisted of FMV games and other titles that didn't properly utilize it. It'd be great to get some new games that truly show what the system is capable of. Also it'd be nice to see more demoscene on those CD consoles of the 1990s.TheSonicRetard wrote: Not to mention it has an incredible homebrew scene, and has been home to quite a number of pretty big name post-retail releases, like Worms, Total Carnage, and Barkley Shut up and Jam.
