I am also a fan. Jp1, think of it as more of a nightmarish dreamscape than a tale of A to B. It's similar to something like Jacob's Ladder, in that the film is intentionally throwing you off, so you are unable to determine the film's reality. It's a hallucination of intense imagery and bizarre storytelling.

Happy Halloween everybody!

We had a Halloween Family Fun Night at our place.

Amazing stuff guys. It's been a wonderful month of reading movie write-ups, seeing decorations, and talking all things spooky. Makes me wish Halloween was year-round.

As for myself, the lady and I went out to eat Ethiopian, saw Nighhtcrawler (not as creepy as the trailer makes it seem, but still really good), and then came home, where I passed out on the couch to my annual ritual of Halloween watching. A good night.

great stuff guys. We handed out candy last night. Got maybe 50 kids. My wife dressed as a witch. I put on a Freddy sweater and got too lazy to keep the hat and glove on. We watched Halloween II and III and some of IV since there was a marathon on AMC. We ate a bunch of finger food in between. My sister and her BF stopped by for a drink. And then we watched Trick R Treat as we do every year on Halloween since it came out. Was a good night. Time to take down decorations though!

Hmmm, I've only watched it once. Maybe I'll give it another go with a different mindset. I love Jacob's Ladder so if you can see parallels there, perhaps I was having a bad night or something. I just didn't really get the whole sequence with the phallic symbolism and the weird tiny guy. Is it supposed to be her losing her sanity, or did it actually happen? Some of her decisions past that point don't make much sense to me either...accepting her fate or something? I don't know, I'll give it another shot. I usually make an effort to give any film that isn't obvious garbage at least two viewings, my wife didn't care for Lords either though so it has made that endeavor a little more challenging.

In a way it left me feeling like I had watched a Lynch film. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of Lynch's work, but why I enjoy it, I couldn't possibly explain. I am always left with more questions than answers. Something about the Lynch films that differs though is that I am inexplicably hooked and drawn in, even when I'm completely in "WTF" land. It bothers me that he never does any in depth explanation on DVD/Blu extras, because you find this whole crowd on IMDB with "You're just too stupid for his work, blah, blah" and I would love for them to have that shit fly right back in their face. I mean wouldn't it be great if Lynch came right out and said "It didn't mean anything. I just wanted it to be unsettling." ?

Ugh, overzealous Lynch fans are some of the worst examples of pretentiousness. And I like the guy's output too.

Final Count:
1. Scream
2. Scream 2
3. Prowl
4. The Purge
5. Halloween (Rob Zombie)
6. Halloween II (Rob Zombie)
7. ATM
8. The Descent
9. Hocus Pocus (it counts!)
10. Wes Craven's New Nightmare
11. Cry Wolf
12. Saw
13. An American Werewolf in Paris
14. Stake Land
15. 30 Days of Night: Dark Days

Found time to watch 15 movies this year, many of which I had seen and owned. One I hadn't watched and was REALLY surprised by was The Descent. The overall atmosphere was scary alone even without the monsters/cave dwellers. Great use of lighting with the flashlights, green glow sticks, and red flares. Awesome horror flick.
