Several of the big PS1 titles had a Mature rating. Will any find their way onto this? Will it limit the family living room appeal or lessen kiddo Christmas gift potential if the box has a KA-Mature ESRB rating? These come to mind:

RE, RE2, & RE3
Dino Crisis 1 & 2
Silent Hill
Metal Gear Solid
Syphon Filter 2 & 3
Parasite Eve & PE2
Diablo
Fear Effect 1 & 2
GTA games
Loaded & Reloaded
Tenchu games (2 of them?)
Vandal Hearts 1 & 2
Forsaken
Mortal Kombat games
Crusader No Remorse
Project Overkill
Blood Omen Legacy of Kain

Any PS1 M FPS...
Doom games
Hexen
Duke games
Quake 2
Alien Trilogy
Alien Resurrection
Powerslave
Disruptor
POed

Sure I'm missing some, but you get the idea. Interesting dynamic we didn't have to really consider for Nintendo mini iterations.

Also, will Capcom give up RE2 with remake on the horizon?

Many of those are long shots but several would be notable if omitted. The PS1 was the "more grown up" console in the market. This is a holiday "toy" though. Thoughts?

That is a real interesting point I had not thought of. I think another question to ask would be, is Sony thinking of this as a "toy" for xmas etc. Or are they going the same route to try and get the "older" demographic. Honestly, I don't know if the 16-18 year olds would care to much on this, so the main market are the oldies that were 16 when the console first came out, like the nea mini, so that is a conundrum. I do know that if they leave out some of those titles they are hindering their sales, from my perspective. I wonder if they can get them re rated, knock em all down to E when compared with modern titles

I think it would be a mistake to leave out M rated titles. I don't think there are a lot of 17 and under kids clamoring for PS1 titles. The violence in most PS1 games in pretty laughable by today's standards. However they could easily fill this thing with quality T and under titles if they really wanted to appeal to a larger audience.

Personally, I have wondered whether they are holding off on the full list of titles to see what people are asking for the most.

I also think Doom would be a really good pick to be on the PlayStation Classic. It is one of the best selling games ever and the PS1 version is one of the better console ports.

They will also be doing region-specific loadouts, so the title lists will vary. I imagine that's complicating their timeline some, too. I think Sony just felt like they needed to get this announced, even if everything wasn't set in stone.

Agreed most of those are tame by today's standards. Maybe a possible parent PIN option you can turn on for M games... but that almost brings more negative attention to it.

Even Teen titles such as Twisted Metal 2 and the original Syphon Filter would give this a much different vibe than the Nintendo minis.

I'm sure they have a solid idea of the final line ups by region, but could be getting rights & royalties talks wrapped up before possibility having to back track later. That'd be a PR nightmare to remove titles announced.

Just in general, the PS1 has such a wide variety of games. It meant different things to different people... 2D platformers, 3D platformers, 3D fighters, FPS, SHUMP, racing, horror, RTS, RPG, Mature games... I think it's going to be harder for them to please the masses. 70%+ of NES & SNES owners had similar game libraries when I'd visit their homes. PS1 was all over.

Also hoping it supports PS3/4 controllers via USB. Nice bonus.

Not being a PS4 owner, I had no idea the PS1 classics weren't on PS4. That's crazy talk...

It's already rated 18 in Europe guys, so I think mature games are a given...

Did anyone catch the little blurb on video that said "USB AC Adaptor NOT included."

Was that the same thing with the Nintendo classics?

No. The only time Nintendo tried that once was with one revision of the 3DS and it pissed off a lot of people in the US as they weren't used to that, but in Japan they had pulled it for years.

And in Europe. Nintendo have been doing it here for nearly a decade. I don't get the big deal... a lot of people have USB ports in their plug sockets nowadays and even more people have a million of those USB AC adapters lying around.

I remember some of the problem is that not everyone uses a computer which has a USB port, perhaps it's just a mobile device. I've seen also perhaps it's the 120 vs 110v we use but some devices just refuse to behave jacked into the USB port on a TV. I remember the original model before the shape change of the chromecast having all sorts of drop outs, even the one I scooped up in some bin did it so I had to wall adapt it to play nice. Also it does come off as pretty tight fisted and overall cheap if you sell a $100 item and can't provide to them which is probably a 20 cent piece of wiring and plastic if that as it creates an inconvenience issue.
