Very sorry to hear about that. Best to you and your family during these troubling times.laurenhiya21 wrote:My sister is in the hospital right now. I don't know too much (she either forgot or doesn't want to sign a release form to let my mom know what's up) other than she's in for depression and she'll probably be in there for at least another week. I don't think she tried to hurt herself (from what I can tell anyway) but I know she has been having a very difficult time living away from home, dealing with people at school, etc... Even though I know that it's kind of hard to take.

I agree, but it isn't ever perfect. My Government class had some discussions on various topics, and 90% of the time it ended up dominated by one or two people. It depended on who was in the class, but one of my friends always "won" the discussions (as chosen by a vote from the class), and I know for a fact the majority of the class did not lean his direction.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Teachers shouldn't use their classrooms to preach political ideology, but encouraging a discussion is absolutely a great thing to do. It gets the kids to think.

Ticked - Tuesday night I pinched a nerve in my back and bruised a muscle. Causing intense pain and a trip to the doctor. At the doctor they gave a muscle relaxer and Wednesday night from 9pm till noon Thursday I was out. Pain is mostly gone but wont be 100% for a few weeks...
Smile - Ack and I are hosting panels at a convention this weekend. Specifically one about crappy movies. Soon those who attend will learn about the glories of Pulgasari, The Clones of Bruce Lee, and everyones favorite Traxx - Where half way through the movie it becomes a cooking show.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Today has been a kind of annoying day.
I learned what falling down the stairs feels like. It sucks! Luckily nothing broken but I did tear up my knuckles and twist my knee to where I probably wont be able to put much weight on it for a few days.
Not a recommended activity.
Tonight was supposed to be one of the longer sightings (~5 minutes in the sky) of the ISS in my area but my dad took my camera on his trip and I wasn't able to spot it with the naked eye either. Disappointing because could have probably gotten a real stunning long exposure but I really just like spotting it for myself.
Where I'm at it has to be at least 30 degrees above the horizon to get a good view and when we do get one it's fantastic, being at 9,000ft and away from urban centers and none existing to the West that would pollute the sky. It will probably be another month or so before it's on that same path again.
I was sort of betting on getting this exposure too, to submit for publishing in our school's creative journal. Only the best 8 photographs, poems, articles and other such things get published.
I guess I'll fall back on the lil cute bobcat playing in the snow I got a month or two ago. I've got some short stories I'm submitting too. I can't be too mad. I should have told him I needed my camera and we went halfsies on it, and half of the lenses are his anyway.
Oh well.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Smile: Back on racketboy! Took a bit of a hiatus. "Hello boys I'm backkk" *Randy Quad voice*.

Been very busy with work and house projects. Most of my free time went towards family time. Projects are slowing a bit. More to come below...
Smile: during that family time (or late at night - I don't sleep as much as most), I've managed to watch quite a few movies this year! Working down a list. Who knew having a 10 month old kiddo would have me almost 2 years behind on movies
Smile: Just set up a "work bench" in garage. I have a gameroom upstairs so this was more for TV/movies while working in garage and for get-togethers/BBQs when we have folks eating everywhere, including fold out table in garage.
I grabbed a 27" JVC CRT at Goodwill for $4.99. Nice TV! Has 3 composite, two of these doubling with S-vid and composite. I have a DVD/VHS player hooked up. DVD via component. OTA antenna with Digital to Analog converter (with free channel guide) hooked up. I'm getting about 20 OTA channels & can watch movies. About to put together a wagon for my kiddo, watching Numb3rs on ION for free! Wifi also reaches the garage so I can use my phone or laptop. Typing this in the garage! All on a plug on a dedicated breaker. Photo:

Times are good, Hope everyone has been doing well!

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Big smile: moved into my house today. Of course I'm back at dad's tonight because I don't have a washer/dryer yet so I came back here to do wash... And am so tired I'll probably sleep here. Plus no internet at the new place yet.
Bought a 330lb rated push cart to move the 36" wega. Broke it. Lashed it to the dolly I had for moving my Neo cabinet. Against all odds, it worked! So happy I'll never move that TV again.
Next couple days will also be tiring with organization, but OH so worth it!

Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Yeah - you really need industrial steel dolly's w/nylon or similar casters. Those fiberglass dolly's w/pneumatic tires at home depot are so shiny and advertise huge weight...they're just terrible. I learned my lesson...twice. They are just terrible / cheap. I'm back to a beat up, ugly, orange painted but all black marred beast from the 70's. It's ugly as all get out - but it'll haul anything.
