My current understanding is that they removed the composite video during a redesign. I think it's just HDMI now. Shame.

We'll know for sure when reviews roll in after December 10th.

While it does not convert to composite, you could use a Scan Converter to take it down to it. Though just having a retron, the converter, some cheapo speakers, and a VGA computer monitor (Im thinking one of those 21 inchers that you can find on the side of the road sometimes), and you have one helluva nice retrogaming setup.

Whats interesting is that Retrousb's Christmas cart is stated to not work with the Retron 5.

I'm one of the few who wants to know if the composite 4:3 out looks good.

Don't get me wrong, the 16:9 HDMI is an awesome option but I'd still likely be hooking up to my CRT to be closer to that original feel.

Someone preordering try on a CRT in SD for me!

Edit: just seeing comments that they might've removed composite. Bummer.

HYPERKIN RETRON5 TO BE DELAYED
New expected delivery date will be quarter one 2014.

EL MONTE, CA (NOVEMBER 2013) – Hyperkin has delayed the RetroN 5 release due to faulty pins discovered in some packaged units. Hyperkin explains that in order to resolve the issue and provide maximum user experience, the RetroN 5 will be released within the first quarter of 2014.
“We apologize for the inconvenience,” said Lawrence Lee, Hyperkin’s Project Manager. “Hyperkin would like to thank you for all the support you have given us throughout the development of the RetroN 5. We are looking forward to its release, estimated to be within the first quarter of 2014, as soon as the issue has been resolved.”

I think most people that will be buying the Retron, which for the most part will be "hardcore" gamers, will understand and have patience. On the other hand, the brogamer crowd that Sony and MS attract have the patience and attention span of 5 year olds.
