That's also probably why you liked the new one.Stark wrote:Watched IT a couple of days ago. I thought it was a great thriller/coming-of-age movie. I never saw the original miniseries, so I couldn't tell you how it compares.

I didn't realize that the fourth and fifth ones were recent films. If I knew that, I wouldn't have even bothered. The fourth one was so bad that I ended up just skipping through it, and I didn't bother watching the fifth one.REPO Man wrote:Well, I don't recommend Parts 4 and 5.
Aw, you should. Watch the movie. Then watch the documentary Room 237. Then watch the movie again.REPO Man wrote:Also never saw The Shining.
I don't believe I've seen the made for TV one. Definitely check out the NBC one though, it's at least worth one viewing. I really like the guy who played Pilate. I think he had the best performance of the cast. Alice Cooper was alright, but I was a little disappointed of the lack of movement. He basically just stood still the entire song. I guess he is getting up there in age.REPO Man wrote:I might give the NBC production of JCS a shot. Do you recommend the 2000 made for TV one? For a made for TV film it seems… decent… -ish.

I watched Ready Player One this past weekend.
On its own it’s a pretty good movie. However, I listened to the book on Audible prior to me watching the movie. In terms of plot they are completely different. The only thing in common with each other is the name of the work and the characters in it. Nonetheless it didn’t sully my experience.
Kinda makes you wonder how you can compress a 16ish hour book into a 2 hour movie and sell it to the masses.

Tales From the Hood, one of the best horror films from the '90s, as well as one of the best anthology films of all time.
Also pre-ordered the forthcoming sequel.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

#8 in the DCUAO is Batman: Under The Red Hood which is... really fucking good. Like top tier good. I'm not sure how I'd rank the first eight exactly, but Under The Red Hood would be way up there at the top rubbing elbows with Superman: Doomsday and Wonder Woman (which should have received the subtitle "Gods & Monsters" yeah?).
This movie (based on the story arc of the same name) explores so much stuff... there's the effects that Jason Todd's death had on Batman of course. But there's also the bits about the Red Hood character himself and how he was never really just one guy, but rather a guise used by many criminals and passed on over time - something I always found fascinating, and touched on in The Killing Joke (which wouldn't be filmed for this series until 2016) along with here.
There's the sort of strained relationship x mutual respect between Batman and Nighthawk, who ends up helping on this case... there's the whole 'be careful what you wish for thing' with Jason's reanimation... the ethics of playing God? A metaphor for being haunted by grief and guilt? Eventually Red Hood becomes a symbol of what Batman COULD become if he'd give in to killing. In this way Under The Red Hood feels rather similar in tone to The Killing Joke, but goes about the themes it explores in different ways. The two stories are surely connected though - explicitly so when The Joker references his own past.
Anyway, I'm rambling. This movie was awesome. Tune in next time for "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse" on Noise Watches All Of Those DC Animated Originals!

John Carter
This is my third time to watch this. You know... I quite like it. I hate that the film was doomed from the beginning with that budget.

It's a fun watch for sci fi fans, even if it is considered a huge box office flop money-wise. I read somewhere it would've had to be a top 30 grossing film to even break even. Wow. It did well on DVD/BD/Digital sales which should tell you something. Give it a chance.
I want to read the 11 books in the series by Edgar Rice Burroughs at some point. The movie is reportedly only book 1
. Hard to believe it was written in the early 1900s.
The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
Funny enough, Tarzan was also written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This movie was okay... an average fantasy action flick.
I caught it on HBO on vacation so I didn't pay for it. I wouldn't pay for it, but not a bad watch if you catch it on a movie channel.
Beauty and the Beast (2017 live action)
Ehhh... I'm not a huge fan of the source material. They did a nice conversion though. If you're in for a family movie night you could do worse. The humor helps.
I really enjoyed the live action Jungle Book. We have live Dumbo and Lion King in the works. Will be interesting to see if this fad does out.

I also really like John Carter. I was a good movie, not an amazing one, but I enjoyed it a lot. I certainly doesn’t deserve a bad reputation.

I fell asleep when I tried to watch John Carter. I believe that's what industry insider types call "pacing issues".

I love John Carter. I'm disappointed we couldn't get more out of that series.
I'm also disappointed the comic adaptations either have terrible art or draw every character like a plastic surgeon for porn stars did the art.

I've seen both, and I liked both, for different reasons. They're from different times with a different way of going about the story. I thought the movie captured the feeling of being a kid in a small town very well, while the miniseries did a great job of instilling dread on a limited budget with TV standards for violence being enforced. They're different but both enjoyable.noiseredux wrote:That's also probably why you liked the new one.Stark wrote:Watched IT a couple of days ago.
