Yeah, it's really slick and could breath new life into PS2 slims when they begin dying. Check out those 2 videos in the RB thread linked when you get a chance.

That YouTuber, Phoenix Media, is all over the PS2 mod scene. Worth looking through his past videos. I subbed to his channel and watch new developments as they come out.

Alright guys. I'm seriously considering a 3DO ODE. Assuming most buy them from the guy who does the DC USB GDROM?

Website looks sketchy. Can any one confirm a successful purchase?
http://3do-renovation.ru/How_to_buy.htm

My option 1:
USB Host Controller for 3DO FZ-1
From $235 to $295 (multiple options, see question below)
- 100% compatible (connecting & working as generic CD Controller)
- easy installation - plug & play (100% solder free solution)

What is that compatibility second bit about a CD Controller referring to?
On the pricing sheet link, what does "with your help" entail for the lower price

Available option 2, but I don't want to be soldering if a plug and play option is available/
USB Host Controller for FZ-10
$165
- 100% compatible
- required soldering skills

Sketchy! No information beyond theirs - It will be available in a firmware update (dated almost a year ago?).
Here's some reddit comments:

Got archived because no further information; If he's in charge of providing official news, click his name and see what he's talking about. This ranked near the top because aside from the official site, there is not much information no matter how you search it.

Will dig into reddit today, but a bit further research isn't promosing. Looks like he ships out his product... eventually.

Here's what the lead guy over at Stone Age Gamer had to say about his dealings. Apparently they carried both the 3DO & DC ODE for some time. Key word "did." Link to quote/statement on why they dropped them:
http://www.thedreamcastjunkyard.co.uk/2 ... m.html?m=1
Maybe we want to include this in OP as a "buyer beware" situation?

Also, his comparison to his DC ODE competitor (GDEMU) is a bit tacky IMO.
http://3do-renovation.ru/comparation.htm

Unfortunately, looks like he is the only route. I'm still a bit tempted with PayPal protection in mind. Whatever you do, don't send him a gifted payment.

Would be interested to know if anyone on RB has ordered from him directly.

Yeah, looks like the FZ-1 is your best option now (my Goldstar came very reasonable in price).

As for ordering from Mnemo, I have gotten 2 devices from him with only minor issues (besides long wait times and little communication). It felt like a gamble to me (both times) but I have my goods.
I agree with not gifting it, so price is probably $255, which is absurd, but if you have money to burn and really want it, he's your only option.
My annoyances are poor communication (and when he does, english is not his 1st language) and that fact that he has to e-mail you another file for it to work, as you must contact him again after installation.

Is it worth it, probably not.
Is it really neat, you betcha!

Any idea what the "with your help" means? Is that the file he Emails you?

Yeah, a working FZ1 looks like roughly $75 to $100 so $330 to $395 depending on console price and the option chosen with him.

I guess if you paid for a good or service through paypal, you could get refunded but I hate to go down that road. Good to hear it worked out twice for you.

I'm just reading between the lines here, as he changed the pricing a bit since my order...
But, I think "with your help" means a gifted payment.

For the FZ-1, I'd look for a system with a bad drive, but functional otherwise. I bet you could get one closer to $50 or $60 if you keep your eyes open and are patient (hard to do if you are awaiting the usb board).

That file I mentioned, I don't think he will e-mail it until after you install the thing (I didn't even know about it until my game files weren't loading).
It's an annoyance, but how he does his business.

Ahhh. Interesting. Yeah, it's an 8.5% increase. Way over the paypal fees but wouldn't surprise me.

Worth noting shipping is another $15.

Happy to hear the product works well. Maybe a little too rich for my blood at the moment.

Hence why I initially recommended a Goldstar. Keep your eyes peeled for an "as-is" or "for parts" Goldstar system that turns on and you might be in the affordable range (assuming he restocks that the USB for that version).

Got to level 3 in PO'ed with no trouble, but need to delete some saves, so have to start over. (Concerning compatibility from other thread).

True. That also goes with the preservation aspect. Save another "dead" console with an ODE. Unfortunately, he has the GS unit listed as:
$165 sold out preorders accepted only

Niceee! Hopefully it'll run those tricky games.
