Awesome! I always liked the look of this.

While it's not for everyone, worth noting the Master System EverDrive flash cart is one of the cheapest ones out there. Runs $77 which will be less than some of the high end carts.

You can also do SMS through a Mega Everdrive. That's what I'm doing. Most games work perfectly, and I think the ones that don't are the same ones that would have an issue with the Power Base Converter anyway. It's an issue with the Genesis, not the flash cart/PBC.

Yeah I do the same but the MEDv2
(or whatever Krizz is calling it now) will run you triple that price.

From earlier in the thread regarding SMS compatibility on Genesis:
Via PBC manual:
The following game cartridges must be played with the Sega Master System Control Pads, Model 3020, only.

Great Volleyball
Shanghai
Alien Syndrome
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Montezuma's Revenge
Bomber Raid

The F-16 Fighting Falcon Cartridge cannot be used with the Power Base Converter.

Actually, the X3 and X5 support SMS as well. The X3 doesn't have a pause button, though. The pause button kinda makes me cringe, anyway. I hate messing with a switch on a cartridge while a game is running.

What you're going to find is that the perfect, do-it-all Genesis does not exist.

I settled on a 3/4 motherboard Model 2 with great sound quality. And I just emulate the few SMS/CD games I want to play.

That adapter from Stone Age Gamer is pretty tempting though. I didn't know that existed...
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Now that I got my PC Engine Duo backed modded, tempted to see if I can find someone who does component mods on Sega Genesis model 1s. Especially when I'm now comparing the resolution between my 2 16bit machines :P

If you want to cheese out, you can do what I did and get a SCART cable and a SCART-to-Component converter. Works great for me. (You can also get an HD Retrovision cable and avoid having to use a powered converter box.)

To clarify, you don't need a mod to get RGB out of most Genesis models.

In addition to hardware and flash carts, I use Fusion to emu Genesis/S-CD/32X/GG/SMS on PC. Anyone know if Fusion or other Sega emus have an option to go in and activate FM sound on US ROMS?

If not... the FM mini adapter does look tempting...

I like Fusion a lot. But I don't know about FM functionality in Fusion - good question!

Yep, Fusion supports the FM sound in SMS games. I highly recommend using this and the retranslation patch if you're looking to play Phantasy Star, for example.
