Play THIS if you can't play THAT
Re: Play THIS if you can't play THAT
I knew there was a fan translation, then an official translation via the collection. Was there a proto out there or something?

I own a Saturn (one of my favorite systems) & MystariaBoneSnapDeez wrote:Do you have a Saturn, Jag?
Mystaria: The Realms of Lore (also known as Blazing Heroes - Yes there are two different North American titles) is another great strategy RPG by Microcabin, the developer of Guardian War.
The suggestions for Lucienne's Quest substitutes Xumy had were good.
Thanks Exh. I really love Grandia 2 but have never played the 1st game. Need pick that up on PSX.
Staying with the 3DO theme... What's the best sub for the two FP D&D RPGS: Slayer & Death Keep?
I've always wanted to pick up Towers II for the Jaguar but not sure if it's worth the entry price. Any other suggestions? I seem to remember SNES Eye of the Beholder being fairly enjoyed by folks couple years back for a community playthrough. I have a SD2SNES so I could easily check it out.

DeathKeep is also on PC! You can find a copy for <$10 on eBay.
As far as Slayer goes... The Ultima Underworld games are similar - not to mention much better. Actually you could say the same applies to Towers II.
The King's Field games for Sony consoles are also spoken highly of.

Looking it up I had it wrong, it was the Monster Land arcade ROM in that collection that was translated but never released. The Monster World IV translation was brand new.Sarge wrote:I knew there was a fan translation, then an official translation via the collection. Was there a proto out there or something?

PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Ah, okay. Would have been cool if they'd stumbled across a prototype, though! It wouldn't surprise me if there was a copy in someone's vault somewhere... or lost forever. I find it hard to believe a game that good didn't get at least a sniff at a US release.Gunstar Green wrote:Looking it up I had it wrong, it was the Monster Land arcade ROM in that collection that was translated but never released. Psssst. You can get Monster World IV (as a "ROM hack") on Steam if you have the Genesis launcher and Wonder Boy in Monster World.

So looks like Deathkeep Windows 95? I'm familiar with DOS box but no experience with any virtual W95.BoneSnapDeez wrote:DeathKeep is also on PC! You can find a copy for <$10 on eBay.

Towers II is W95 also. I should look into that bc I can't justify the $100 purchase on the Jag for a game that Telegames still produces annually (in small quantities) & don't see me getting into ST or Falcon (although they intrigue me).
Ultima is on my to further reseach/to play list. Kind of overwhelming on where to start.
I have SNES mouse & can throw Eye of the Beholder on my SD2SNES. The novelty of playing that on a SNES, with a mouse is enticing lol.

Eye of the Beholder is first-person but plays a bit differently, with a point-and-click interface during battles. Fun game!

Re: Play THIS if you can't play THAT
I started Mystaria/Blazing Heroes tonight because of this thread! Been on my backlog for too long. Discovering Micro Cabin developed it really got me to jump in.
Will eventually move opinions to RPG subforum. Enjoyed the first battle. I really like the art style & gameplay mechanics so far. Will be diving in further, reading up & playing, throughout week (for RPGs, I get a little OCD about understanding all the stats).
Win for the thread!
