Heat's not really an issue. Electronics can tolerate heat just fine. Humidity is a much bigger issue. I think the vacuum space bags inside a rubbermaid bin with dessicant packed around it would be a fine solution.

Electronics maybe, but I wouldn't store disc based media in temps warmer than 90 degrees.

That's a good point, I hadn't considered disc media. Maybe stack the disks in a cake box and keep it inside.

Also, remember you can reuse dessicants by baking them in an oven at a low temp for a couple hours. That would be good practice every year or two.

Man, these humidity fears are really making me want to leave my entire collection in Pennsylvania when I move to Texas, where I can't play it but at least it will be safe. I probably am abandoning the disc based games for now anyway.

Thankfully my girlfriend understands that if she told me to get rid of my collection or put it in the garage I would not be moving to Texas with her.

I'm going to miss basements. And occasionally being cold.

Not to thread hijack but since my situation is related:

How much danger are cartridges and discs actually in, with regards to high humidity (I have been there many times before, I have felt the soupy hell you people call "weather" so I understand what East Texas is like)? I may just leave the disc games behind for now since I'm pressed for space at the moment anyway.

I am definitely leaving the consoles behind and will settle for the Retron 5 when it comes out.

Well they're fine in the house lol. Central HVAC eliminates humidity. If you're moving to East TX, don't store your collection in the garage if you're anywhere south of Longview (parallel with Dallas).
