Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle

The film, which was recently fansubbed by TV-Nihon, is divided into two stories.

The first is about Kamen Rider Wizard trying to hide the Hope Ring (haven't watched KR Wizard yet so IDK what that is), but his plans are thwarted by a powerful adversary who steals the ring and creates a copy of Koyomi and gives her the Hope Ring and she transforms into the White Wizard (again, IDK) and the main character Haruto is giving the choice to either destroy her or watch as she destroys everything, though either way his despair will bring about Haruto's Phantom Wizardragon.

The second, which ties into the first, takes place early on in the KR Gaim timeline, where a mysterious Rider who bears a resemblance to Gaim (albeit with a red color scheme and apparently uses a Blood Orange Lock Seed) kidnaps Gaim, as well as Ryugen and Baron and takes them to an alternate Sengoku Era where every area in Japan is ruled by a Lord whose armies are led by a Bujin Rider (all of which are based on Heisei-era Riders). But one rider, who serves only his desire for domination, destroys all the Bujin Riders and now it's up to Gaim, Ryugen and Baron, who are also accompanied by the Armored Rider Zangetsu (known to the characters as the White Armored Rider), and are joined by KR Wizard and KR Beast.

Pretty good but without a lot of knowledge on the subject of Kamen Rider Wizard I felt as though I should have watched it first.

If I found a copy of Panic Restaurant @ the flea market, I'd send you a video of me blowing in the cart :P.

I wen to the drive-in theatre last weekend; I saw a double feature.

Earth to Echo
Earth to Echo is a kids movie wherein three boys (and later one girl) try to aid an alien who has crash-landed on earth. This movie uses the "found footage" style (ie: Cloverfield, Blair Witch, et cetera) to save on money. The shoestring budget is obvious here. Special effects are negligible. The titular Echo spends most of his time hiding in a metal cylinder inside the kids' backpack. Echo himself only shows his face for a few minutes out of the whole movie. In fact, if you've seen the trailer, you have already seen all of Echo you're going to see.

One thing this movie did right was to express the frustration of being a twelve-year-old kid. The three boys are awkward around girls, ignored by parents, and tormented by older siblings. The girl (a pretty blonde) is frustrated at her parents for pigeonholing her into a prom queen gender stereotype. The kids live in a suburb that has been bought out (supposedly) by a highway construction project using eminent domain. They know they will have to move away from each other, but are powerless to stop this.

Unfortunately, none of these conflicts are properly resolved. After the kids go on a fantastical E.T.-esque adventure, they land right back where they started. None of the three boys get to kiss the girl. The girl goes right back to her parents house. The parents still move away and the friends are mostly separated. There's a voice-over narration near the end that indicated they will always be "friends forever".

The Verdict: Skip Earth to Echo and watch instead the film Super 8 by J.J. Abrams. Like E2E, Super 8 is a coming-of-age story about some boys and a girl who shoot footage of an alien who has crashed on earth. Super 8 is a more competent movie with better visual effects, a better script, better acting, and more memorable characters.

Jersey Boys

I did not expect to like a musical biopic period drama, yet I was wrong. Jersey Boys really surprised me as I found myself empathizing with the characters and singing along to the music.

For the uninitiated, Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Most musician biopics tend to sensationalize stories of a bands' bohemian drug abuse(ie: Oliver Stone's The Doors, Walk the Line, et cetera), but Jerseys Boys paints a picture of the Four Seasons as hard working men who scraped every day to make their way out of debt and organized crime. We like to think that musicians have an easygoing lifestyle, but this film shows just how hard you have to work and what sacrifices you have to make to succeed.

Jersey Boys also makes for a good date movie. The Four Seasons were known for romantic songs. My woman and I were singing (poorly) to each other the whole way home. I didn't realize that I already knew most of the lyrics by heart.

The Verdict: Watch Jersey Boys, and take your special someone with you.

Glad to see you liked it. I've seen the stage musical 3 or 4 times and saw the movie with my dad when he was in town (who also has seen the stage musical about as many times as I have). It's a really well written show that knows when it's time to do a full song and when to just do a snippet to get you in the mood they're trying to create. And it's a lot of fun live because everyone in the audience knows all the lyrics, whether they realize it or not.

Begin Again

My mom actually dragged me to go see this with her and I went in with only the vague knowledge that it was the movie Adam Levine was supposed to be in. Turns out it was actually pretty good. It's probably best classified as a drama, but it's lighthearted with a good mix of humor and musical numbers so the viewer doesn't feel too bogged down. The songs were nice, the characters were cute and in the end I walked out of the theatre with a nice warm, fuzzy feeling :)

I also saw Jersey Boys, but samsonlonghair beat me too it.

You don't have to defer to my opinion regarding Jersey Boys; go ahead and give us your thoughts, especially if they differ from mine.

I can't think of a single person who would want to see the new HERCULES movie. Maybe people who want to see The Rock donning a lion hat?

Maybe. But I doubt it.

Can't judge a movie by it's trailers, but not since Prince of Persia have I been so disinterested in a movie.

Oh it's, The Rock? He looks like Kevin Sorbo.
