I still have the Nintendo Power issue that's a Final Fantasy strategy guide. It's fantastic. I love how Nintendo Power used to dedicate entire issues to a single game. You could never get away with that these days.
I'm the same way with the NES Final Fantasy games. I really like that black background. Oddly, I don't like the black backgrounds in the early Dragon Quest games on the NES. =p

I played through the Dawn of Souls FF1 last year and loved it. So simple but so engaging. Has the fifth best FF overworld theme. Yep. The GBA version is extremely easy but that doesn't really bother me cos I'm a scrub. I like naming my own characters and giving them stupid backstory as well.

I haven't progressed much on FFXII since I had the itch the beat Ocarina of Time, which makes FFXII look pretty lumpen to be honest, but I'll get back into it I'm sure.

Yeah this one is quite easy. I heard that the difficulty is essentially identical to the "easy" mode of FF Origins.

I'm using the default party with default names.

Also, 5th best overworld theme? I think we all know what #1 is:

Yeah well the battle backgrounds in Dragon Warrior II/III/IV are completely black. Kind of stark and unpleasant. Same goes for Mother.

Its a fairly large game compared to dragon warrior IMO. Impressed when I see ppl beat it so fast.

IIRC the boxes were blue, could you change them to black? Maybe I'm remembering the PSX remake.

You're thinking of the remake. The original NES FF's were black-based in battle (with blue-based menus outside of battle).

The PSX Final Fantasy is a port of the WonderSwan Color version I think.

For this playthrough I was torn between the PSP version and Dawn of Souls. Went with Dawn of Souls to avoid load times.
