Holy crap! MS and Square-Enix just dropped the MEGATON!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Also, MGS4 is no longer safe. If Square-Enix can bring FFXIII to the 360, Konami can do the same for their game. This a major news announcement on Microsoft's part. Things are getting very interesting.
Yeah, but I imagine Sony had Konami sign 50 exclusivity contracts because it's for many the only convincing reason to get a PS3 (not to say the rest of the library is shit). Plus, while the graphics don't look too hard to do on the 360, it'd definitely be at least 3 DVDs, probably more. Then again FFXIII is probably a few DVDs too...

Despite what some may think, it IS possible to spilt a game into several discs. I believe the Bluray discs store around 30GB or so, which isn't too hard to cram onto a few dual layer DVDs. They CAN just make it a bit less detailed on the 360 version, not as though they have to only use one DVD and leave most of the Bluray disc empty. It's not like the 360 is equal in power and media to the Atari 2600.

I agree with Niode, Sony really hasn't innovated at all unless I'm forgetting something. Closest thing is Bluray, which is just a different format. As innovative as Sega was for using GD-ROMs. They're making the same mistake so many console designers made before: thinking if it's more powerful it'll sell better than the 'inferior' other consoles. Look at the Wii:
as much as I hate some of the choices N makes about it, it's original. It's a fresh experience. Something people haven't done before. Most of us have played sports games and the like on other consoles, but it's entirely different on the Wii. And it sold so well N couldn't keep up for a while. While on the other hand, the only difference between a game on the PS3 and a game on the 360 is the PS3 one might look a bit better and have the potential of being longer without using a second disc. The controllers are more or less the same with a different layout and feel, the game is played exactly the same. There's no big difference, no innovation. I'm not a big Microsoft fan, but at least they were somewhat innovative, they brought online gaming to the mainstream in a way the Dreamcast couldn't do in its short life. Sony may have done well the last two generations and they probably won't do too bad this time, but I don't think the future Sony consoles are going to do any better the way they do things, unless the other consoles suck by then.

What about Versus? Does 360 only get one FF?

You of all people have no right to call anyone "Xbots". You can't say you don't care about FF and then make stupid accusations about it being "watered down".
yes i can. nothing says i cant. Also GTAIV was limited due to the limitations of the DVD format!

GTA is a series that never was on multiple discs and wouldn't fair well on two discs. Where would you split the disc? Different parts of the city? It just doesn't work out really, having to swap discs as you drove around would be cumbersome.

RPGs on the other hand have been split repeatedly and have good places it can be done with very little annoyance. Shit I remember when multi-disc RPGs came out it felt really cool cause you were like "wow, look at all the game I get!" I don't think I ever once was annoyed having to swap discs for RPGs. The games are so linear you have to do the swap once.

Another thing is a DVD has just over 9 gigs of storage space. That's a lot of room. The videogame itself really doesn't take up all that much space... the bulk of the "game" is just textures. What fills those damn discs up is 'video' and 'audio'. These can fill up real fast, especially if they utilize the higher bitrates supported by Blu-Ray, but that doesn't mean the 360 version has to have that high quality video... I turn 10 gig movies into 700meg Xvid files every day.

I mean really think about it... how often do installs of games on your computer (which are far more bloated then console games) and have it sky rocket too 10 gigs (not counting video giles)?

Even though Rockstar commented on the size of the DVD as being a challenge, not once did they say they had to cut content to fit it on the disc. The game received perfect scores from many publications, and there is no evidence of any corners being cut. All the ISO dumps of GTAIV are only around 7GB as well. It's naive to think GTAIV "could of been so much more" if only on PS3.

You seem to have to interject your opinion about the PS3 into almost every topic on this forum, so yeah, you have no right to call anyone an Xbot.

Flight Simulator 10 =P... naw but really that game is huge, i just dont like having to swap things and Im aware how much space most DVD's have. You kinda have to wonder what MGS4 would have been like w/o time or data constraints; 3 hour cut scenes? 80 hours of cinematics? Guess we will never know. Either way that bursts my bubble to hear about how nearly all the 3rd party exclusives Sony had jump ship or go multiplatform. Hopefully they can pick up the pace and learn from their mistakes and not end up like Sega.

Simply saying games are limited by format is stupid. There's plenty of games that are 60 hours plus on 8meg cartridges...

RyaN, please shut up. You have absolutely no idea on how games are made and the technical limits on consoles.

For a start MGS4 has several installs throughout the game. I'd much rather swap a DVD than have to sit 20m for the first install, 10-15m for each consecutive install. Swapping a DVD takes 30 seconds max. And that's after spinning around, picking my nose, pulling my shorts out of my ass and scratching my nuts. It's bullshit saying that games for the PS3 can't be ported to 360 because it uses DVD. WTF? Why not split the game up. If the largest PS3 guys require mandatory installs and constant re-installs i'd much rather have multi discs and swap. It's so much quicker.

Blu-ray discs can hold 25 gigs if single layer...50 if dual.

I realize how many of you are xbox fanboys but wont admit it, but Sony does have the superior hardware for the most part. The war has just started, FFXIII is just a battle. Plus the PS3 version is gonna be released, then there gonna start working on the 360 version. So when PS3 owners have gotten bored with it, be glad knowing that it'll just be another week til you can buy it for your xbox. But in reality I could not care less...this game prolly wont see a release til...well 2013 prolly. I'm just waiting for LittleBigPlanet personally, I don't like getting my hopes up for a game that doesn't even have some sort of demo.
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.
