Re: Moon Chronicles 3DS - Episode 2 Announced

Post by Jagosaurus »

Updated for episode 2 if any 1 is interested.

I still need to DL episode 1. Tried recently & need to call Nintendo... couldn't connect to e-shop. I'll be picking up the entire season if they release all 4 episodes. Want to see the new, 2nd game made

------

As an update... got my 3DS to connect to the shop after tinkering with the DNS settings.

Episode 1 has a sale going on for $5.99 ($3.00 off which is 33%) until 10/2. Nice! :)

OK, finally DLed this & started episode 1 today. I'm 1hr 10m in & looks like I'll finish episode 1 in 30-40 mins.

So far I'm impressed with the production. Keep in mind I never play Moon on the DS but did watch footage. The cleaned up graphics look sharp, less jagged edges than the original DS game. Picture fills both screens nicely & appears to be a true aspect ratio overhaul versus stretching.

The 3D does look very nice & adds depth (although I turn the 3D off in all games bc it hurts my eyes). I was surprised the cut scenes weren't 3D though, odd choice.

This game definitely offers a unique experience for the FPS genre on the 3DS.

There is a nod at Doom that I really appreciated as a huge fan of early FPS games.

I did confirm the 3DS Circle Pad Pro works. There is no auto-aim or lock on so it's actually more difficult with the dual sticks. I reccomend using the original stylus control scheme. My aim was much more accurate this way.

More to come on actually game content versus first impressions mentioned here.

This isn't the early 90's. Plus, back then you just ordered the full game and got all the episodes of a shareware title.

Just the idea of a game being fragmented like that sounds just... uck. Like five different demos strung together.

Agreed. I'd much rather one release & Im hoping it comes out on a physical release at that time. I think they're gauging interest for the true sequel with this model but perhaps alienating (pun intended) much of their target audience.

Thanks for bumping... reminded me I need to type up my thoughts after finishing the episode. Update to come.

Has there been any word out of them when the episodes are done if the sales are nice enough if they'll do a physical release? I think it's nice they're doing chapters, it's like how they sold stuff in pieces in the earlier 90s like Wolf3D, DOOM, Blake Stone.

Not that I've seen.

They have mentioned the second game. Perhaps that at a minimum would be a cart release? I'd be okay having a physical copy of Moon on DS & Moon 2 on 3DS. Would be an added bonus if the 3DS overhaul was released on cart as well though!
