I'm note sure dead batteries really count as a hardware longevity issue. The battery is meant to be replaced and is easily replaced.Jagosaurus wrote: In my experience, that's the #1 problem that Saturns run into. That, and dead batteries.

That should be an easy fix. Pop the cover off, disassemble the latch bits, clean them, and add a super light bit of appropriate grease on sliding contact points.Jagosaurus wrote:My model 2 has a lid latch issue. I wedge a coin in the space between the lid & console body. Fixes it. Games boot right up.

All of the above is true. My Saturn is a model 1, and apart from it coming with a dead battery, the only problem I've had mechanically is that the console doesn't register that the door is closed unless you close it very carefully. Outside of that, it works like new.

Yeah Hobie I'll be not lazy one day & work on this lol. My model 2 with the issue is my backup & the coin works fine so not a pressing issue today lolHobie-wan wrote:That should be an easy fix. @ OP, SS is a beast. You can just tell by holding it that it's a sturdy piece of hardware.

Iv'e always heard that they last long. From what ive understand as far as CD based system the Saturn is up there as far as reliability. I purchased mine off ebay about two years ago and modded it myself. Since then i left it in my trunk (although in a nice laptop case) for about 2 months. I then left it at my foyer (which gets cold) for upteen days. My Saturn did look like it was in decent shape when i purchased off ebay. I initially did log a ton of hours on her playing various shootemups. She still works and of course i have no idea how many hours was logged on her before she came into my possession. Of course with any electronics be it new or old (especially old in the Saturns case) there's always a inherent risk of something going wrong. I believe any failures will probably happen(show itself) in the first few weeks. After that i think youll should be ok.
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast

Your Saturn will last forever as long as you never EVER get it wet, and NEVER feed it after midnight.
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!
