Good Genesis RPGs that are somewhat affordable?
Re: Good Genesis RPGs that are somewhat affordable?
Beyond Oasis was a fresh surprise on the Genesis. Tons of action and great dialogue.

If you've ever played Star Control 2, Starflight is the spiritual predecessor.brukner1129 wrote:As for Starflight, I've never heard of it, but I'm gonna look into it.
If you like first person dungeon crawlers then I'd say it's worthwhile. It's not nearly as difficult as the Wizardry games. So would Shining in the Darkness be worthwhile?

Sounds great, I thoroughly enjoyed the Wizardry and Might & Magic series on the NES when I was younger, so that sounds like it would suit me nicely.MrPopo wrote:If you like first person dungeon crawlers then I'd say it's worthwhile. It's not nearly as difficult as the Wizardry games.

Corporation and Sword of Vermillion are dirt cheap
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

While I'm all about playing on the original hardware, if you have a PS2 look into the Sega Collection. It has Phantasy Star 2, 3, 4 & Sword of Vermilion. PS3/360 Sonic Collection also added PS1 IIRC.
I'm playing PSIV now on this PS2 disc. I'd much rather the real thing but I found the game for $5 lol. Couldn't resist! Three save state slots are available. Nice to be able to save in dungeons. I'm loving PSIV. I'll buy the Genesis boxed version eventually.

Aye, the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is a good option for the Phantasy Star and Shining series, plus Beyond Oasis, if the original hardware isn't a big deal.

Really? I am going to have to track down a copy then. I've always wanted to play phantasy star 4 but have only tried emulating it and it just glitches up after a few minutes. Beyond Oasis has been on my list to play since I fell in love with the Saturn game, I can't remember the name for the life of me right now though, legend of oasis I think.isiolia wrote:Aye, the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is a good option for the Phantasy Star and Shining series, plus Beyond Oasis, if the original hardware isn't a big deal.

Yes, I LOVED Legend of Oasis. I used to have it, but I got rid of it for some reason (can't remember why, really regret it). It was a great game, really underappreciated.flex wood wrote:Beyond Oasis has been on my list to play since I fell in love with the Saturn game, I can't remember the name for the life of me right now though, legend of oasis I think.

I'm a big proponent of playing games in order.
So, Shining in the Darkness --> Shining Force --> Shining Force II
Phantasy Star (can play this on Gen w/ Power Base Converter) --> Phantasy Star II --> Phantasy Star III --> Phantasy Star IV

Theres a hefty bunch of Sega RPGs on Sonics Ultimate Game Collection if you own any system current gen.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
