Remembering DOS-era gaming (giant jpg)
Re: Remembering DOS-era gaming (giant jpg)
@ J T - Thanks, very nice round of memorable games in the JPG. Good to see One Must Fall make the list, noise you might like that one. I can only claim to own or played half of the games. I bet Metal Jesus owns all of these.

Indeed. Many memories of crowding around a 13 inch monitor with 4 or 5 other friends and the rest of the 10 set to random computer enemies and commencing with the insanity.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Scorched Earth - FTW!!

Yes this is what you think it is. I have recently aqquired an old IBM PS/2 386. It's a great old PC thats running dos 5.0. So badass. Don't mind the 21" behemoth.
I will be using this image for game ideas! Thanks!

^ That reminds me of the old 386 machine I have lying around with a 5.25" floppy drive in it. I should try and get it running again.
I'll have to give that image a more thorough check, but Rise of the Triads caught my eye. I remember playing this game back when and couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called a few years back. Funny though, I remembered a cheat code for it, so I was able to Google the cheat code and figure out the title that way.

Bah! Ugly IBM monitor! Feast your eyes on 13 inches of NEC Multisync 3D goodness!

It uh, had a few decorations added a few years ago.

Fair warning, there are a number of games in that image that will not run for shit on the best 386 out there (I had a DX/40 back in the day, and I triedjeffro11 wrote:Yes this is what you think it is. Oh I know this. I also have many other Dos machines. Including a badass Toshiba Pentium 1 laptop. I just love the look of the dx40 its so big and hulking. It's amazing!

Heatsinks were optional!
Er, now I forget if I have the 386 or 486 processors...

Re: Remembering DOS-era gaming (giant jpg)
So the articles on the main site... we don't have anything for PC games? Looking at this giant pic made me realize that I haven't really played any old DOS games in a long time now. I think I'm gonna set up my old PII with 98SE and do a little gaming.
Anyways, if some one wrote an article about DOS games for the main site, I'd definitely enjoy reading it.
I was looking at JT's pic a little more. Recognizing titles here and there, seeing some I've never heard of but look interesting. I saw Magic Carpet and it kinda brought me back. My Win 95 Compaq Presario came with a bunch of software on CDs. One CD was Magic Carpet and PGA Pro Tour something-or-other.
