Well, I don't hate Guitar Hero because I think people need to get real guitars. That's like telling people who love Tony Hawk to learn to skateboard, or the people who love Gran Turismo to learn to drive, or the people who love COD to join the military.
I hate it because it has been whored out left and right, with no real sense of progression, and the track lists have been getting more and more pathetic. I probably could have dealt with it if there weren't huge displays of it at Best Buy and kids didn't play it all the damn time at GameStop.
As for Halo... the first one was great, and the second one was still pretty fun. However, they didn't deserve the almost universally perfect scores they earned, little progress has been made since Halo 2, and with Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo ODST and Halo Reach coming up, it seems like it's being whored out. And that's not even counting the anime, the novels, the comic books, the action figures (which seems a little strange considering they're based on an M-rated game), the breakfast cereals...

King of Fighters series *Did they really need to update this Street Fighter rip-off every year of the last decade?*
Take a look at how different each King of Fighters is compared to each Street Fighter. While Capcom usually changed a few moves up and threw in a couple of characters every now and then, KOF always had new characters, new backgrounds, new gameplay mechanics, new stories, a new GUI, etc.
Also, tell me: How was it a SF rip-off? Because it had characters fighting each other on a 2D plane?
