The pictures of The Getaway took me instantly back to my college arcade.

Ive been trying to get that Harem multiball for the last few days. That is the entire reason I have been playing. I get frustrated, go back to another game, come back, try for the harem, get frustrated, etc. I have gotten pretty good at the Camel Race though.

To touch on what Ejamer said. I thought I would get tired of the flashy SS machines quickly and fall back to the pre mid80s machines I knew. Things like Central Park, Genie, Gorgar, and Black Knight. While I still dont like Pinbot, I no longer have an affinity for any generation. I just like chasing the silverball. Aslong as the table has goals of some kind, I will give it a go. I still dont plan on buying a SS table, but an EM is in my future of some kind. The most surprising table for me has been WHO Dunnit. I am terrible at it, but man I enjoy it.

The last time I got to play The Getaway was in 2013 and I mentioned it here. Just 1 more week!

Harem multiball took me a while to get, but the camel race shouldn't be a problem since all you have to do is hit the ramps and you also can spread it out over multiple balls. I still think harem multiball and the wizard goal of winning a camel race should have been switched.

Another Whodunnit fan! I was cranking out 120 million jackpots on those just the other day but I can't top my 4 billion high score. I also think it has one of the best jackpot announcement screens ever. You've been practicing!

EDIT: I also found a real Whodunnit high score I got in 2012, just over 2 billion.

It is hard, but if you want specifically to go for Harem multiball you really need to catch the ball on the right flipper after Tiger shot is enabled and wait for it to elapse.

If you "accidentally" activate lock in this process, lock the balls, get the Genie multiball over and then go back to catching the ball on the right flipper when Tiger is flashing, and wait for it to stop flashing. It is a bit annoying and frustrating because the left loop is rather crowded for features and Harem isn't even lit all the time even if Tiger and Lock aren't. It seemed to me to be specifically lit for some seconds after Tiger was lit.

Also, I know it isn't in Pinball Arcade, but I've finally managed to get the top score in the Timeshock table (Pro Pinball, back from before 2000!). I'm not nearly as good to complete the "Wizard" mode of it though. It is a really good pinball game and a pretty amazing table design, I'm now retrospectively rather sad they didn't get their Kickstarter funded back in 2012 or so.

Owning a real table would be amazing - but I'm not very handy so the maintenance concerns me. As far as I can tell, there aren't many pinball fans in the area either.

Cost is also an issue of course. Getting a table in good condition doesn't tend cheap, and living in a small area means I'd need to travel to get one (or pay some pretty hefty shipping fees) on top of the purchase price.

Heck, I'd be happy if I could just find a working table to play within 100 km of where I live...

Pro mode tables: which (if any) are worth investing the extra cash in? I'm not really clear on what it adds, but my impression from some quick reading is that they generally aren't necessary. The one I'm thinking about grabbing is Scared Stiff because apparently you can enable the double-entendre audio; not necessary, but seems like a pretty big part of the theme.

Completed the standard goals on El Dorado and also got 1.2 million. They had to dream up some very difficult wizard goals for that game, from the looks of things.

Also, once again I got screwed out of a wizard goal on Cue Ball Wizard. Spelled DOUBLE, didn't get credit for it. As I said, it happens!

I hope to be playing The Getaway by this time tomorrow!

That one table lets you control the family mode, yes. Other features include a detailed zoomable playfield, tips from IFPA players, a mode that lets you control the ball on a live playfield, and access to the operator menus (similar to dip switches on arcade games). That's it. Keep in mind any modifications you make to the default settings will NOT let you save scores to the TPA online leaderboards. I only have Season 1 in Pro mode because it was on sale, otherwise I found nothing special about it.

People asked which tables are least interesting for the first two seasons. Before I listed a table that was ok but just didn't do anything for me - but now I've found one that I actively dislike. Central Park.

Ugh... this table represents everything I don't enjoy in older pinball tables. Absolutely requires nudging and tilting if you are going to do well, otherwise it depends highly on luck. Scoring is very simplistic, as is the table design.

I stuck with it long enough to get all standard goals, and have no interest in going back for more. Some people will like this style of play. It's very old-school and if you enjoy nudging the table you'll probably have a ball. It's not for me though.

When you originally asked the question I was prepared to say Central Park, I really don't care for the multiple ways you can lose a ball, but I had a few decent plays on it that got me a good score by the game's standard anyway. If you can keep the ball alive long enough you can stack a whole ton of extra balls. I also have 4/5 wizard goals. Just need to score 1,000 on one ball.

It's also interesting to note that Gottlieb's Slick Chick, a game from 1963, is always in the top 10 EMs on ipdb.org, and that game isn't nearly as bad, but you can also lose your ball quite fast on that because of the super wide flipper gap, there's even a hole in the middle that you can lose a ball in unless it's lit for a special.
