My wife and I watched two horror films recently. The first was:
Dagon (2001). I loved the H.P. Lovecraft story on which it was based. I thought that relocvating it to a Spanish fishing village was brilliant (and probably inspired, to a certain extent, Resident Evil 4). The effects were passable; the continuity erros were not that noticable; and the scares were genuine (and one of the actresees resembled Barbara Steele...). The protagonist, however, was an incredibly poor actor, however, and his character was a total douche. He single-handedly ruined the movie for me, and as a result, I cannot recommend it.
Tonight, however, my wife and I watched:
It Follows (2014). It was brilliant, effective, and perfectly shot and scored. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
