I'm still playing around with Half-Life, but I haven't had much time to play it recently. I am in "Surface Tension" and heading towards the Lambda Center; so, I think I am getting close to the end.

I am having fun with it. I think it has been surpassed by later FPSs, but I appreciate its "immersive" storytelling. Moreover, I think that if I had played this game in the late 90s, it would have been mind-blowing.

It took some time to finally figure out the timing on the springs(I tend to hit the jump button half a second before I should), but once I had that down, I started getting farther and farther into the level. I finally cleared it and am now sitting in 8-4, the final boss level of the first run through the game.

I messed around a bit in it to figure out the first jump, but I think this is a level I will have to study a while to figure it out. It's a labyrinth, and I don't have a lot of time. I have to figure out how to navigate it, where the items are so I can take on Bowser with a fire flower, and how to do this as quickly as possible.
The hardest bit of the last level is a jump where you have to jump out from a ledge and pull back afterwards to land on a platform underneath the same ledge. This gave me a really hard time. Crouching helps.

I beat The Pain in MGS3 last night, and also managed to get an early kill on The End using the sniper rifle too. I reloaded afterwards though, as I want to kill him legitimately too.

Ha! I always hated that jump. Feels like one of those cases of the developer trolling the player.

Is it at all like the first jump in the level, where you have to use a ledge to bump you over so you can land on the ledge below and then run and jump over the lava pit?

Nope, it's literally a small ledge over a pipe with a pit directly right of it. After the pit is the edge of the stage, so you can't go any further right. You have to jump out over the pit, pull back to the left and fit into a gap thats just big enough for big mario as you fall. You will hit the ledge or the pipe and die a lot if you're anything like me.

Watch this: the commentary is amazing and might help you with some of the nasty parts.

You have Surface Tension, an intervening level, then Lambda Complex, then the Xen levels.

Nice work! I think you may be the first person in the challenge's history to beat all ten games!

.....

Half-Life is still coming along. I made it to Xen last night, and I defeated the four-legged boss. I just started "Interloper" and hope to finish up the game tonight. After that, I will call it on my summer games challenge (but I will never stop playing classic games).

Not to steal any of Ack's thunder, but I did beat a list of ten games. Perhaps not the same ten I started with, but ten games, nonetheless.

Nice! I've never managed more than seven out of ten, and this year will be more like 5... :? (That is still a pretty good effort, though!)
