Cronozilla wrote:Considering the fact that pretty much every media outlet and Metal Gear fan is under the impression Phantom Pain is Kojima and Kojima Production's last Metal Gear game, Konami would have set that record straight. Because all this information does is potentially damage the title's performance.
The rub there is everyone who cares about Metal Gear knows who Hideo Kojima is. And if they know about The Phantom Pain, then they know Kojima and his people have been working on it for a long time. Therefore the informed fans would know that whenever The Phantom Pain released, whether it says so on the box or not, Hideo Kojima was deeply involved in the project. On the flip side, people buying The Phantom Pain blind with no previous knowledge of the series, wouldn't know who Kojima is or care that he's not listed on the box.

Which leads me to believe...
Some people are arguing Kojima could have demanded his name no longer be on the product.
I'm betting that this is the case. Obviously Kojima's studio and its independent power within Konami has been greatly neutered. If that's the case, it's quite possible outside Konami execs have commanded a few changes to The Phantom Pain (who knows what). And if Kojima is no longer able to dictate every single aspect of The Phantom Pain, then he no longer feels it is truly "A Hideo Kojima Game", and thusly wants that slogan off the box.

I don't think Konami has claimed Kojima is fired, nor has Kojima claimed he was fired, because he is still working as a contractor and consultant on the finalization of this product. However, I do believe after The Phantom Pain releases, Kojima and Konami will truly part ways and perhaps then the details as to what happened will be made more clear. I have my own speculations on what caused this rift, but as they are speculations I'll refrain from spreading any rumors.

Like most I expected a longer prequel for the money but the game looks and plays beautifully. 0, really, just not true im just as upset about the length as anyone else but its at least an 8 or a 9 the reason for the 7 is I wanted more and I was mad when I got bored playing it. just wait for phantom pain metal gear fans the future is exciting ground zeroes was a fun little reveal around the corner.

That sentence wouldn't have made sense in any language.

There are plenty, they're just typically spammers from specific areas. We get them from China, Russia, and Nigeria in waves.

Daley: "The main reason for the falling out, at least in her opinion, is that Kojima gets paid a salary, and doesn't make any profit share on the game. He gets paid a certain amount no matter what, and he was spending so much money and delaying the project, and adding all these features and making sure the game was the biggest and best thing it could be, and Konami was unhappy with that because [delaying] has no effect on him. He was spending the budget on this and that and upgrading the Fox Engine and then delaying further because the engine wasn't ready, and Konami wasn't happy with that because he gets his salary and he takes a more traditional "Japanese man" approach by not taking a profit share. So in doing that, he gets a little more than a game creator would but doesn't take bonuses from the game selling well."

Yong: "So you're telling me that Kojima wanting to make the game the best it can be is what started the conflict?"

Daley: Yes. In her eyes, Kojima's a fantastic creator, and probably the best creator of his time, but he doesn't have a strong business sense like Konami would like him to have. Where instead of, for example, cutting corners by lowering foliage resolution, he wants to make sure everything looks as good and polished as possible. She said they paid for her to write 30-40 songs that ended up not being used, and he'd tell her to write another one, then another one, then another one, because he settles for what he likes and has a good mind for what people want to see and what people want to hear. (Amen on that, yo: Avirdi's personal addition).

Daley: "She's worked directly with Kojima for the music before so she does have some insight, and personally believes that the music has suffered in MGSV because she's not a part of it, because they couldn't afford her. So instead of paying her to go to all these people and recruit them for the music, they chose to remove her from the equation and go to the people directly."

It's almost like they're saying Kojima was dragging on production because it was job security to do so.

Seems more like Konami wanted to make him answer to someone that'd keep his projects on schedule and within budget, and he balked. In a way, it paints everyone involved as true to their purpose - Kojima can be the visionary creator, and Konami the shrewd businessman, and game fans and investors all hear what they want.

Either way it all boils down to money in the end.

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to the game. I thought I was done with Metal Gear a loooong time ago but Ground Zeroes rejuvenated my interest. The game looks amazing for one, and not amazing like everyone says their favorite game looks. It genuinely looks like a step up. I might not mind the absurdly long cinematics (assuming they're there) in this one because everything just looks so good.

The gameplay seemed tight as well from just what I could tell in Ground Zeroes. Voice acting was great, production values top notch as usual. I'm hyped and I'm not anywhere near a super fan.
