The rub there is everyone who cares about Metal Gear knows who Hideo Kojima is. And if they know about The Phantom Pain, then they know Kojima and his people have been working on it for a long time. Therefore the informed fans would know that whenever The Phantom Pain released, whether it says so on the box or not, Hideo Kojima was deeply involved in the project. On the flip side, people buying The Phantom Pain blind with no previous knowledge of the series, wouldn't know who Kojima is or care that he's not listed on the box.Cronozilla wrote:Considering the fact that pretty much every media outlet and Metal Gear fan is under the impression Phantom Pain is Kojima and Kojima Production's last Metal Gear game, Konami would have set that record straight. Because all this information does is potentially damage the title's performance.
Which leads me to believe...
I'm betting that this is the case. Obviously Kojima's studio and its independent power within Konami has been greatly neutered. If that's the case, it's quite possible outside Konami execs have commanded a few changes to The Phantom Pain (who knows what). And if Kojima is no longer able to dictate every single aspect of The Phantom Pain, then he no longer feels it is truly "A Hideo Kojima Game", and thusly wants that slogan off the box. Some people are arguing Kojima could have demanded his name no longer be on the product.
I don't think Konami has claimed Kojima is fired, nor has Kojima claimed he was fired, because he is still working as a contractor and consultant on the finalization of this product. However, I do believe after The Phantom Pain releases, Kojima and Konami will truly part ways and perhaps then the details as to what happened will be made more clear. I have my own speculations on what caused this rift, but as they are speculations I'll refrain from spreading any rumors.
