Yeah, all the wood is AC2 treated. Teh 2x6's (which I used for both 2x6, and my 2x2 stock) are 2 years old and are reclaimed from an old sandbox I had built, so they have 2 years of weathering to them; hence the darker more brown color.

My wife wants to paint them deep red or green, but i'm happy to let them be as they are. They'll last 20-25 years as they are and that's plenty long for me...and, part of the project is the investment. The 3 chairs and 1 bench cost $85 ($30 of which is high-end no split / no weather dipped screws) and 5 hours of labor. If i paint them, it doubles the money and time cost...which makes it no longer a "cheap 1-day project".

Jeez Frags, that sounds like the pits.

Love the comments on houses being a money pit. There really is always something.

:D Got a call from a friend I've had since I was in elementary school in Chi-town. We've always kept in touch but it has been a long minute since we've seen each other. So he calls and says, "Luke, Katy Perry and John Mayer are back together!". My response was "Um, okay... How do you know?", and he replies with "I just saw them making out. But hey man, the real reason I called is because I'm in NC and I'll be stopping by your house tomorrow".

Couldn't help myself and asked "But are Katy and John really back together?".

He says, "Saw them making out outside of Soldier Field. John is much taller in real life and Katy's boobs are bigger too. See you at around Five?".

Can't wait for ihs visit and I'm racking my brain about things to do for entertainment.

I didn't even notice it was reclaimed, it looks like fresh lumber. I prefer the natural look, the only time I'll stain something is if I bought a nice hardwood so I can enhance the grain. It would take me a minimum of two days to build those chairs and bench though. That's without all the additional items you had thrown in like completely tearing down, leveling, and resetting a pool. That's another day or two for me. Like I said, it's an embarrassment. I don't know how you do it.

Until the appliances and cars start breaking down at least.
Oh no don't start with that.

Some of my upcoming projects are stupid, cheap, and fun. For example I'm adding a landline phone to my game room.

My wife just got a major promotion, I could technically quit my crappy job. But it means she will get a new car in the next week or so, instead of by year end. Which is great since her car died just this morning.

Awesome and please pass on some congrats!

I am having issues with both cars right now. We always buy 10+ years old and things are normally pretty good / reliable, but without fail, when one has an issue, the other one does too within a few days.

So...yes, a more reliable car is a good / safe idea.

So:

All of a sudden I'm being exposed to a strange NC health care issue. It seems if the child is over 12 they are being asked by health care administrators, in front of their parents, or required to sign (maybe in front of their parents), to release their Personal Health Information. The UNC SOG has a great guide on dealing with emancipated and unemancipated minors and PHI. But the general rule is that if the minor was allowed to consent to the treatment then the minor has control of the PHI. Think STDs, abortions, or abuse etc.

Now my issue is that if it isn't one of those issues and the parent was necessary for consent then the child cannot consent to the release of PHI under federal and NC law. That's my interpretation anyway. I'm sure this is being done as an administrative fix to save employees from having to ensure that minor patients aren't of the type that have control over their PHI but it strikes me that it's creating more legal exposure than it's protecting for the practices.

Anybody able to explain why I'm wrong or what I'm missing?

And don't say I'm missing my marbles.

So, let me make sure I understand what you're saying: if the minor is the one who gives consent for treatment, they control the release of PHI. If the minor is requested treatment by their parents, the parents control the PHI until the minor is an adult. While this is designed to create clear legal guidelines for the care providers, it inadvertently creates situations where a minor may request treatment that a parent ought to have knowledge of, without being required to make that information known to the parents.

If that's what you're saying, I've got to say that unfortunately there's nothing missing. I just finished a class on healthcare IT, and one of our discussions was on that exact moral dilemma. There was no real solution to it. We concluded that it's just a murky situation.

Murky indeed.

And thanks for the reply as I kept re-reading everything I had read on the subject. One of those many things that doesn't make sense, but does, but really doesn't.

There also isn't a thing as PHI. That info gets passed on like herpes at FSU. It's not that I am paranoid, it's just that I don't trust anyone ;)
