Simplistic is good, especially with a new batch of players and beginner players like Key and myself and you are right that a GM willing to spend some time and patience with us is good. I really want to get someone who is a pretty malleable person who can think on their feet. Regardless, I am not one to push buttons with GMs, but I definitely do like to throw curveballs and think outside of the box to achieve goals.

Has anyone had experience with the Dragon Age roleplaying system? It looks pretty accessible, but I don't have any experience with it. There are so many systems out there now a days that it is hard to keep track. Whatever the case may be, I am ready to do what can be done.

As for schedule, I am very open. My newborn goes to sleep around 9-10PM EST and sometimes a little later depending on her demeanor, but that isn't a deterrent. I have wireless headphones and I can listen in if I need to make a bottle to feed her. Also, the mute button will be my friend to spare you any issues if she acts up. She is the most mellow baby in the world so I don't think it will be a problem, plus my wife works 3 days a week so there will be little problems if it is around the evening. As long as the time is consistent we should be good!

I wish Will Wheaton's campaign setting that he is doing with Tabletop would be available to use. It looks like a fun setting! A nice mix of technology and fantasy that sets itself apart from other games like Shadowrun.

I think as a nice introduction for people we should stick with fantasy, because it has the most variety of systems that are easy to pick up and play, but also to kind of get a good feel of the people playing. If we really work well and want to move on to some different settings, we can later. Plus....Dark Sun.....Dark Sun?....Dark Sun....Shenmue? ....Dark Sun.

I don't mind tone. Although I am a goofball, I am a roleplayer first and foremost and can adjust accordingly. I love roleplaying and having a character. I am not some person who is like, "My guy is super awesome and all powerful and is crazy cool in everything he does!" I like to play it casual. My guy is new to this. He has dreams, hopes aspirations...secrets and he grows as the campaign moves forward. People change and I love to have characters that change as well. I like to work with the GM too, telling them my secrets and giving them material to work with if they want to. I don't like being the star of the show and love giving people time to shine and giving them things to work off of. I am an instigator in a game and love to get reactions from people. I don't push buttons and annoy people, but I definitely bring out participation and most of all...FUN!

I can't DM even though I've always wanted to try. I used to play a card game where the person in charge makes up all the rules, and I did love hosting that. The players could think it was about winning and believe that the rules were fairly concrete, but in reality it was all about making a good show. The best DM I ever had definitely fudged stats left and right to give us a compelling story. I only realized that in hindsight.

I'm with marurun on being lighter on rules, at least at first. And I'm not saying we should do this, but I'm the kind of person who's down with using rock-paper-scissors for almost everything. I'm in it for the character interactions and wacky/inspiring scenarios.

My only true suggestion for the suggestion box though is if we could avoid grittiness in the tone. I don't really know how to explain what I mean by this. So it's probably not helpful at all.

Well, it means that VtM is not a possibility.

I think we can try to run some basic D&D pre-made adventure or something like that, it should be accessible and fun.

It also means I'm definitely out as DM, as I pretty much always run horror campaigns.

Horror isn't necessarily gritty. Look at Shawn of the Dead.

True, but I don't usually have much in the way of comedy to go along with it.

Isn't that what noise is for?

Ahh, nonono! I definitely do not want to be discouraging any potential DMs here. My suggestion was only that -- a small suggestion -- and should be totally ignored if it doesn't work with other people's styles or preferences.

And also, horror can be great! Popo is right on the money. I don't know exactly how to explain what I mean by "grit." It's... agh. I don't have a word for it.

So with that eloquence, please, just ignore me. Let the game be what it will be. I know you guys will construct a great time regardless of setting. And I'm sure the players can insert some goofiness if it feels right.

I think what you mean is just the overall attitude of the group. A lot of people get all grim and serious and the games are just dark and brooding and all...emo! You can have horror settings and scary settings and the people paying can make it fun and still a happy experience.
