my biggest complaint with older games is just the difficulty mixed with the limited lives systems. i still can never get through an old game without cheats.
my other complaint is in general games not giving descriptions of things that aren't obvious. items and spells and such.
right now i'm playing shin megami tensei (SNES) translation, and it is horrible for this. yes, it's an unofficial translation. but even in the official translations, they keep the spell names, so i'm counting it. what is my heal spell? "Mediarahan" of course. what spell cures status effects? "penpatora" so obvious. what the hell does the item "gold pill" do? i still have no idea, but i have 10 of them just incase.

A fair amount of that was kept in manuals (space constraints), but then a lot of old RPGs on the PC required you to know the D&D rules to have a good idea of what your equipment stats were.

Don't forget all the terrible arcade ports too. Especially those that had to be modified for a one-button control scheme.

Wait, a crash bug with the Seahawks in TSB? I don't remember anything like that. Was there some specific instance of running play that triggered it? I pretty much beat the game with every team...

I don't know, I feel like if I explain this it loses its effect...Sarge wrote:Wait, a crash bug with the Seahawks in TSB? I don't remember anything like that. Was there some specific instance of running play that triggered it? I pretty much beat the game with every team...

That "non-jump" was already awful when it was possible hahahaMrPopo wrote:TMNT DOS, stage 3, that slow realization that it is completely impossible to make the jump in the sewer.

DOS TMNT and C64 Rastan both have impossible jumps. Shocking they even got released.

Rastan on the Master System also had terrible jumping physics. I loved everything about the game but that one aspect made me lose it. Actually P.T.N.P. did a great review of the game not too long ago: http://thepunkeffect.com/a-very-sega-ch ... -nes-punk/BoneSnapDeez wrote:Rastan both have impossible jumps.
