I started this tonight, going in blind. I'm ignoring all of your guys level suggestions so I avoid knowing power ups and weaknesses, although I did start on Chill Penguin as so many of you recommended it. Heres my progression so far:
Chill Penguin - Got the boots. Didn't find any other power ups. He was really easy if you just wall jump over all of his attacks.
Spark Mandrill - I noticed an e-tank at the start of the level, but couldnt figure out how to get it. I also saw a heart of some sort which I'm assuming is a health boost half way through, missed that too. I made a good guess on the boss here, he was weak to Penguins weapon.
Launch Octopus - I figured that being underwater he might be weak to electricity. I figured wrong. I hated this level, especially the stupid fish robot that sucks you in over the spike pit. Launch octopus kicked my ass, so I'll come back later.
Sting Chameleon - None of the others seemed like obvious choices for weak to electricity so I just guessed at random. I guessed wrong. This stage was pretty easy though and I found the armour hidden here too. Sting Chameleons fight was kind of annoying, but not crazy hard. I beat him with buster, so I still don't know what his weakness is.
3 stages down, 1 scoped out ready for when I have the weakness, 2 armour upgrades found, but no health or etanks acquired as of yet. Not bad for a quick blast I reckon.

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
Some items cannot be gotten without picking up some equipment from another stage. As for weaknesses on the bosses you've already done (as in Mega Man fashion there are refights in the Sigma stages), Sting Chameleon is weak to Boomer Kuwanger's weapon, and Chill Penguin is weak to Flame Mammoth's weapon. One of the cool things about X is that many of the weaknesses really can trivialize the bosses; you probably already saw that with Spark Mandrill's weakness to ice. So many of the weaknesses can be guessed by "what would logically really trip up this boss's ability to hurt me?" with the other few being "what seems like it'd be effective given this boss's attack pattern or element?" There's only one weakness that makes absolutely no sense in the game, and it's Launch Octopus's weakness.

I don't know, Wolf Sigma's weakness was kinda WTF.MrPopo wrote:There's only one weakness that makes absolutely no sense in the game, and it's Launch Octopus's weakness.
Has anyone other than me beat the Zero games?
Has anyone other than me messed with the ZX games?

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
I mentioned how epic I think the Zero series finale is. Zero is one of my least favorite characters in the franchise (refer to my avatar to know who's 500x cooler), but that didn't stop me from loving the Zero games.
I can't really get behind you on ZX though. I beat both (I swear I thought there was two?...) but I seriously can't remember anything about them and thought they were kind of whatever.
A little related, I think I'd have a hard time finding a DS installment in some series that I'd favor over a GBA title.

I'd help more people out with this game but I don't even want to spoil it or use spoiler tags.

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
There are two on DS. ZX and ZX Advent. I have beaten ZX, but I haven't beaten Advent yet. I enjoyed ZX except the SPIKES EVERYWHERE level design got a little carried away.Xeogred wrote:I beat both (I swear I thought there was two?...)
I think anyone who enjoys the X or Z series should give them a try. Good stuff in my book.

I beat the first 3 Zero games. Never got around to trying number 4. They are excellent. I've been wanting to pick up the Zero collection on DS and revisit them.Exhuminator wrote: Has anyone other than me beat the Zero games?

I also beat ZX and loved it, but I have yet to play Advent.

And it's cleared.
I found the armor in a different spot than I mentioned in the other post. It severely confused me until I realized that I was talking about the SUPER DUPER SECRET...
I had a lot of trouble with...
I'm glad I was prodded into this. It's been too long.
I've been on a Mega Man kick lately and it's good to see some lively discussion about it, too.

Re: Together Retro: Mega Man X
Having just finished X5 as Zero I've now beaten every worthwhile X universe game (X1-5, Zero 1-4, ZX and ZX Advent). The Zero games are a lot of fun but as mentioned are quite hard, and can be quite punishing in how they dole out abilities.
ZX Advent is interesting in that you not only get the biometals from ZX but you start off with a special biometal that lets you take on the form of defeated bosses. It's an interesting twist on the old formula of getting a weapon from the boss; now you get the boss. A few of them are especially useful for their movement abilities, and they did put in some rather non-humanoid bosses, so a few have a really interesting feel to them.
