Every trick you land you should be able to combo into a grind (top yellow arrow on N64) or a manual (up then down on d-pad before landing).
We have 1 and 3 going right now. Tagan just cleared Chicago on THPS1 and has 2 tapes left on Downtown Minneapolis. Me and Aidric are trying to clear THPS3 now - we have all items the first 4 stages and are mid-way through the airport.

After mastering THPS2 in just 30 days with no series experience up to that point in 2012, I finally started THPS4 (GC). I started with a few simple 2 minute sessions.
Then I started the Career mode. I found that instead of getting 3 levels with 5 goals each, you receive goals from talking to people throughout the stages, and each of those goals have their own time limits (if applicable), which I found to be much nicer because you'd be able to check out the stages with no time limits and also be more prepared for the goals when you're ready to do them. I also liked that the first level was a bit of a tutorial in many ways because I forgot a lot of the commands. This was my goals list at the end of this day.
Much like THPS2, some of these goals will require better stat points & equipment. But I was pleasantly surprised by the new level approach here. It was a good time this weekend.

Welp. Neither 1, 2, or 3 were beaten this weekend. We are close and our progress is saved. The weather was very good so we were outside a few hours both days - can't really complain about that.
We are stuck in LA on the sick score (400K) on THPS3, so we still need 10 missions to finish (1 in LA, 9 in Tokyo).
We are not necessarily stuck on THPS1 - we just didn't finish. We are on the word SKATE in the Phoenix downhill. So pretty close to beating this one too.
Was a really fun weekend - should've taken more pics. The boys have some tech decks and we have a few boards and ramps outside too - was fun having another themed weekend for sure.

Great pics and stories Mike. I love the series and glad your boys jumped into some great games. Who was their go-to skaters? Jamie Thomas was my main man!

We're all about Tony Hawk - though we watched a couple videos on some high score trick runs and there were some pretty cool custom (or hidden) characters out there. Darth Maul lightsabering security guards, anyone?

This guy does in 4 minutes what we spent 20 hours on over the weekend:
I've watched it 3 times now. Absolutely amazing.

Was able to beat THPS and THPS 2 yesterday. Couldn't have played for more than three hours.
Although I hate the oxbox controller, I ended up sticking with THPS 2x, which is a prettier looking version of the game and also allows for manuals in THPS. And not that you can't do some pretty ridiculous stuff in THPS 1 & 2, but I doubt I'll ever get into THPS 3 and on. Grinding on telephone wires is a bit absurd.
