Just make a list so we can debate whether the games are classics. You don't actually have to play through any of them.
hahaha.

Here's a bit more of a list I've worked on...

Adventures Of Willy Beamish
Bonk's Adventure
Call Of Duty
Diablo
Earthworm Jim
Final Fantasy IV
King Of Fighters 2002
King's Quest VII
Vigilante

Like I said earlier, what I want is:

(A) Final Fantasy IV
(B) 9 other games that I actually do want to play
(C) those 9 games should be less than 10 hrs to beat each

As such, not everything up there even sticks to my own rules.

-Diablo and KQ7 are both longer than 10 hr games.
-Willy Beamish is prob not a classic.
-Vigilante is debatable

If anyone wants to help convince me to do this, I need games that are on the shorter side (like 5-6 hrs is sweet spot), are classics or cult-classics (I'm in the E.T. counts camp), and if they have DOS, Windows or Android ports even better.

yep, original COD. Most of the stuff I have listed up there is stuff I own already. I played like the tutorial stuff and that was it.

Why King's Quest VII instead of just part I or whatever? Is that installment particularly noteworthy?

Vigilante is fine.

Adventures Of Willy Beamish...... Questionable. I'll need more details. I always thought it was one of those crappy Sega CD games that people enjoyed "ironically." I know Luke enjoys it though.

Diablo is still worth playing, even if it will take you more than 10 hours. It will show you exactly where games like Grim Dawn came from, it's been hugely influential, and I don't think it is particularly difficult these days. I personally roll warrior in it just about always, but that's just me.

The later "Disney-looking" entries like VI, VII are generally easier to get into as they don't have dead-ends that can F you over. I chose VII because I own a physical copy of it. I guess I'm thinking of the DQ series as being classic, more so than thinking about individual entries.

If there's another adventure game I should replace it with (including Willy Beamish) I'm all ears. But again, should follow the outline I mentioned.

@Ack: Yeah, Diablo is one that I'd still consider. Stupid question, can you hold mouse button down like in Grim Dawn or do you have to continually click to attack?

If I recall correctly, you actually have to hold shift, but yeah, there is a way to stand static and continuously attack.

What else do you own on GOG or Steam? And have you tried Quake II yet?

I just meant that you shouldn't feel too much pressure to play these games if the modd doesn't strike you. And, you certainly should not feel bad if you don't get through all of them. (I try really hard to get through my lsit each year, but 6/10 is my record.)

.....

With regard to your list...What, in your opinion, makes Vigilante, KoF2002, and KQVII classics? I am not completely opposed to them, but I just need more information.

In other words, Vigilante does not seem to do anything that Double Dragon didn't do three years earlier. KoF2002 does not seem like a particularly noteworthy entry in the long-running KoF series, and KQVII is kind of an oddity. (For the KQ series, I would go with KQ or KQVI, but I am not totally adverse to KQVII.)

Would Kung-Fu Master be a better choice than Vigilante? It predates it and is arguably more influential.

Here's some of my physical collection:

I don't have much on GOG that would apply... I doubt Omikron is a classic to anyone, haha.

@Jordy; I'm not sure I can really back-up that KQ7 is a classic. Beamish I could say is maybe a cult-classic? Not sure.

KOF'02 was an entry I considered because I've read it was one of the best selling in the series. Shrug?

@Bone; I don't feel especially attached to Vigilante... or Kung Fu Master. Always liked the cover art for Vigilante though.
