I think she's done better than many politicians. The senate and house are awash with politicians with nothing to their name other than belligerence and a knack for re-election.Sarge wrote:Well, maybe she's got a knack for playing the political game, but I'm not sure she's actually achieved anything of significance.marurun wrote: And a knack for it, too. You mean pretty much everyone in politics?marurun wrote: I think she's done better than many politicians. The senate and house are awash with politicians with nothing to their name other than belligerence and a knack for re-election.

Her resume is much more significant than any of the candidates that have formally thrown their hat in the ring. She was a Senator for eight years and Secretary of State for four, and has a clear record of accomplishments (and controversy, of course) associated with each position.Sarge wrote:I'm not sure she's actually achieved anything of significance.
Cruz and Paul barely have a combined six years in the Senate and no substantive national experience otherwise.

Sadly, yes.Ack wrote:You mean pretty much everyone in politics?marurun wrote: I think she's done better than many politicians. The senate and house are awash with politicians with nothing to their name other than belligerence and a knack for re-election.
But I was trying not to thoroughly depress myself.

But I think most of her support really stems from being a politically active First Lady to a fairly popular President.dsheinem wrote:Her resume is much more significant than any of the candidates that have formally thrown their hat in the ring. I do not know whether or not this is true, but even if it is, that in no way undercuts her professional or political history of accomplishments. It just means that some of her supporters may be overlooking other reasons to support her.Jmustang1968 wrote:But I think most of her support really stems from being a politically active First Lady to a fairly popular President.

Strictly on the basis of national and global experience, Clinton is easily heads and shoulders above the crowd in both the GOP and the Democratic Party.
However, we most recently elected as president a first term senator, a governor, and another governor -- so I don't know that years of experience on the national or global stage is something that, at least in the 21st Century, voters seem to care much about thus far.

What DO you think voters seem to care about? Obviously we can throw out the people who always vote the party, but what about the middle?dsheinem wrote:Strictly on the basis of national and global experience, Clinton is easily heads and shoulders above the crowd in both the GOP and the Democratic Party.

short answer: The voters are generally a fickle, foolish lot.MrPopo wrote:What DO you think voters seem to care about? better (?) answer: What the middle of the road voters "care about" on election day typically depends too much on contextual stuff that occurs post-convention (e.g. the most recent narratives of the election, the horse race, some recent national event, a faux pas in a debate, etc.). The job of nominating a candidate is generally in picking someone who can speak to both past, current, and anticipated future contexts that will inform the last few months of the campaign.
Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
Serious question: I realize that she certainly has experience, with being First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State, but what are the specific things of note that she accomplished in those roles?
