First Person Movies?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I think I can understand how someone would like it. Heck, one of my favorite movies ever is "Super Mario Bros.: The Movie".

I'm too new here to feel comfortable threadjacking, so I'll hold off on criticizing "Cloverfield" in any detail.

"Crank" had a couple of minutes of first-person at the beginning of the film. I'm sure most people on the forum have seen it, but if anyone want to see an example of a film with a strong video game influence, including strong retrogaming influences, it's definitely worth watching. It is definitely much more of a video game film than any video-game-titled movie I've ever seen.

They're making a sequel to Crank, by the way. Regardless, Cloverfield is just an example. There's also the pron and the bad horror flicks like Blair Witch, but other than that the first person view shouldn't be used that much because it's meant to emphasize perspective, (like in Being John Malkovich) and if it's constantly in use I don't think it would be as effective. Even in Cloverfield the camera had been dropped a few times and it made for a more believable movie... though as I'm typing this I'm thinking of a full-length movie idea that's all 1st person and you occasionally get snippets of "your" character in mirrors or reflective surfaces... that would be hard to do in live-action...

Cloverfield rules, I embrace innovation and originality. Hollywood could take a lesson from Cloverfield.

Argh! But Cloverfield wasn't innovative or original! It was just an acknowledged giant monster movie knock-off shot Blair-Witch style in a city entirely populated with characters out of Beverly Hills 90210.

It was, however, marketed very, very well.

Heheh, that's an interesting way to put it. How about this?:

Gojira + Blair Witch Project + Beverly Hills 90210 = Cloverfield

It was entertaining, sure. I enjoyed it for the most part...well, aside from the stupidity of the main characters and my inability to suspend disbelief about someone recovering that quickly from having a rebar pipe shoved through their shoulder. But, I will say, it definitely had its moments(exploding girl, anybody?).
