I'm afraid I haven't beaten the original Mario Bros either... I've hardly beaten any of the Mario games really  I've only beaten Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and the first Galaxy lol

Anyways, I've reorganized my list a bit. First 5 are ones I really want to play, and rest are ones I would like to get to, but it depends of how much time I have left (and if I get my computer fixed for some of them).

1. Super Mario World (SuFami)
2. Yoshi’s Island (SuFami)
3. Klonoa: Door to Phantomille (PSN)
4. Contra III (SuFami)
5. Dino Crisis (PSN) <--Is this actually a classic though? I'm still not 100% sure ._.

6. Silent Hill (PS1)
7. Super Punch-Out!! (Wii VC)
8. Final Fight 2 (SuFami)
9. Mega Man X (SuFami)
10. Gunstar Heroes (Steam)
11. Golden Axe III (Steam)
12. Super Mario Bros 2 (NES/Emu)

If I can't get my SuFami fixed while I'm in the States for a few weeks... I'm either going to have to really scrape through my library or I won't be able to do much this year for the challenge :/ (it should be ok, but you never know)

Sarge:

1. Resident Evil
2. Donkey Kong Country 2
3. Spyro the Dragon
4. GoldenEye 007
5. F-Zero
6. StarFox
7. Crash Bandicoot
8. Banjo-Kazooie
9. Revenge of Shinobi
10. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil sandwich. Just saying.

Key-Glyph:

1. Metroid
2. Super Mario Bros.
3. Donkey Kong Country
4. MOTHER
5. Super Mario World
6. Earthworm Jim
7. Phantasy Star III (I would say yes)
8. Tecmo Bowl
9. F-Zero
10. WCW World Championship Wrestling (I would say no. Bump up one of your other three.)
11. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
12. Maniac Mansion
13. LOOM

Don't feel about about the Super Mario Bros. games. I didn't beat SMB3 for the first time until the Summer Challenge in 2013. I'm trying to psych myself up to finally play through The Lost Levels at this point.

laurenhiya:

1. Super Mario World (SuFami)
2. Yoshi’s Island (SuFami)
3. Klonoa: Door to Phantomille (PSN)
4. Contra III (SuFami)
5. Dino Crisis (PSN) <--Is this actually a classic though? I'm still not 100% sure ._.

6. Silent Hill (PS1)
7. Super Punch-Out!! (Wii VC)
8. Final Fight 2 (SuFami)
9. Mega Man X (SuFami)
10. Gunstar Heroes (Steam)
11. Golden Axe III (Steam)
12. Super Mario Bros 2 (NES/Emu)

I would suggest taking out Dino Crisis and Final Fight 2 for Golden Axe III and Super Mario Bros 2, but that's just my opinion.

Great list. I wish I still had some of these to play, would make my decisions easier!

I think Maniac Mansion and Loom seem like better choices than some of your main list, especially WCW.

Have to disagree with Ack on this one - I think Dino Crisis is more of a classic than Golden Axe 3. Definitely sub Mario 2 in though!

Honestly, I think that list is good, with maybe the exception of R-Type Delta, but that's only because I've little knowledge of the PS1's shmup collection and not necessarily because the game isn't a classic.

That said, more people should play through Virtua Cop 2.

I was going to say that I can't really play Mario 2 unless I get my PC fixed but... is it on the VC? I don't have my Wii hooked up so I can't really check that, but if it is I probably would get it and bump Dino Crisis down to the maybe list.

Yeah, between the two, Maniac is more of a classic, but I intend to play LOOM as well this year.

Well, glad we agree on Mario 2 at least, haha!

I'll give my reasoning on Golden Axe III though. For one, it closes out the Golden Axe series for the 16-bit era(and effectively closed the main Golden Axe line of games for 15 years until the release of Beast Rider). Golden Axe III was also only available via the Sega Channel in the US during its initial release, making it an early example of online-exclusive console gaming. And finally, since I also argued in favor of removing Final Fight 2, I figured at least one beat 'em up/hack 'n' slash should make the list. Survival horror is already covered by Silent Hill.

That said, it's considered a mediocre game. I can also see an argument for leaving Dino Crisis on, since it did phenomenally well and is considered one of the best selling games Capcom ever put out. I just think it's second tier after the RE series and Silent Hill on the PS1.
