I didn't even know such a thread existed. This forum is way too fragmented with too many different boards.ExedExes wrote:I'll continue to post progress in the "What Single Player FPS Campaign Are You Playing" thread.

The other thing that was crazy was the weapon collecting. You could screw yourself out of one of the game's best weapons simply by opening a few random chests early in the game, and some other weapons are only found in really hard dungeons and have like a 5% or less drop rate.
It's no wonder this game had a built achievement system (before achievements even existed) given how difficult everything was. I loved FF XII, but Jesus Christ was it a demanding game. I'm a different gamer now, I might hate it if I played it again now LOL
Yeah, it was a little depressing to beat all the hunts and get all the Summons and only get a little Achievement. The 'reward' wasn't really worth it, but the journey most certainly was.Nemoide wrote:**looks at FFXII posts**

I beat FFXII several years prior to my friends and I doing a Final Fantasy Marathon back in 2011. We played all of the main games from I - XII. For FFXII, I put over 100 hours and I would play that game everyday. When I first played XII, I thought it was good. After the Marathon, I couldn't stop playing the game. It really surprised me during the second playthrough. The graphics are amazing and it plays almost exactly like a single player MMO.
Of course, I should mention that I am a giant Final Fantasy fanboy, so my opinion might be a little skewed.

I'm not a fanboy of the series, but I also put over 100 hours into the game. It's just an awesome experience period, no skewing required.Markies wrote:I should mention that I am a giant Final Fantasy fanboy, so my opinion might be a little skewed.

I can't imagine fighting those optional Final Fantasy bosses. I could beat like 50 Atari games in the time it takes. As if JRPGs weren't long enough already. I never even attempted the "Weapons" in part VII. That game was tedious enough without some extra shit tacked on.

Home Alone. NES.
My buddies and I have a drinking game (aptly named "Drink Alone") where everyone takes a drink every time you lose.
None of us have ever won.

Best drinking game. 10/10.
This user really likes SEGA Saturn. Avoid at all costs.
Re: Unexpectedly hard games
They didn't really get too ridiculous until Final Fantasy VIII. Emerald you had a set time limit you could easily beat it under, and Ruby required you to load up one question and just get lucky at the start. After that, he wasn't that hard.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I can't imagine fighting those optional Final Fantasy bosses. I could beat like 50 Atari games in the time it takes. Re: Unexpectedly hard games
I actually think the superbosses didn't get interesting until VIII. Ozma in IX is one of the best fights in the series, no amount of setup can guarantee a win against him.
And then XII and XIII came along and put fights even harder than most superbosses in the middle of the game. The Ancient Wurm in XII was such an unexpected and wonderful fight. Bathadelous was a panicked paradigm-shift madhouse.
I love the crazy boss fights. If I am enjoying the game, more of that game pushed to its extreme is never a bad thing for me. The reward is just icing, its all about the journey.
And yeah, Emerald and Ruby are a joke. Emerald can be taken down in like 3 minutes. Ruby you can just stun-lock with Hades/KotR W-Summon. They only get interesting if you limit yourself as to what you are allowed to use.
