Unexpectedly hard games
What are some games that seem unassuming, but are actually pretty difficult? For me an example is Pac Man World. It starts off easy, but the second boss battle is a big difficulty spike, and later in the game it gets really hard.

Even though it's pretty easy for me now, Kirby's Adventure's last battles can be pretty darn tough.

I recently played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Melee for the original XBOX. Most TMNT games are easy enough, but this one threw me a curve ball. The tutorial just about kicked my ass. I couldn't beat the second level.

Re: Unexpectedly hard games
The last game I finished that was testes crushing hard much more so than I actually expected was:
I had beat the game previously on Xbox, and it was a little tough on that platform but no big deal. But holy shit balls man the PC version was totally different and psychotically difficult.

Hardcore Gaming 101 has a picture of reviewers of the time saying how easy the game was. Yeaaaah, right.
As far as I'm concerned, if a game was made by Sunsoft it's a sure sign that the game is going to be extremely hard

Castlevania - The Circle of the Moon.
Ok, I know someone will speak up and say it was easy for them, but this game was the most challenging of all the Castlevania games that I have played so far. With that said, it was a great game, but extremely frustrating.
1. No Store! Everything you need has to come from a killed enemy. Whats the point of having 40 leather suits if you cant trade them in towards an upgrade.
2. After beating a boss your health meter stays the same till you reach a new save point.
3. Enemies are completely unpredictable. Their movement seems to change based on your distance from them. Not much of a pattern unless you are at the right distances.
4. Even at 91% of completion I only had 25% of the cards needed to help beat some of the last big bosses. It took a few extra hours of grinding up levels and destroying the same enemies over and over to get the last bit of cards. Oh and by the way, I never collected them all.
