They can rip the data off the discs and it will work, sound, and look exactly the same, but only if that data ripped from the discs is run on a Saturn. They could feasibly write a very good Saturn emulator and use that to release the game on modern consoles, but that would not give them very many options in terms of improving the graphics.Original_Name wrote: I don't understand why the original source code is necessary. I mean, you can just rip the data off the disks and it'll work, sound, and look exactly the same. Besides, Panzer Dragoon Saga deserves a full remake in the graphics and cutscenes. Make all the dialogue spoken, but change nothing about the gameplay mechanics whatsoever. And take some damn time with it. You have a classic at your disposal, and it's so rare that remaking it is practically releasing a new game. Get to it!! And have an actual ad campaign to go with it.
If they had the source code, they could port it to a modern console and keep the play mechanics exactly the same while updating all of the visuals. Without it, it would be possible to accomplish, but it would be a ridiculously long, difficult, and miserable job for whomever had to go through and extract all of the necessary information from the machine code.
