Holy **** you weren't kidding.

I started this game up last night and I had to restart on the second to last checkpoint on the first mission at least ten times.

You said GRAW 2 lets you quicksave again. Thank goodness. Gotta suffer through this one first.

Final Fantasy XII

I had played FF games before and sort of knew what to expect...but nothing prepared me for optional bosses that took 1-2 FREAKING HOURS to beat:

JESUS CHRIST. That blew my fucking mind

Those of us who 100%ed that game should have gotten a medal.

EDIT: Actually took that player two AND A HALF hours to beat that boss. I don't even remember how long it took me.

Yeah man... I think I still have PTSD from beating GR:AW on PC. Especially the final mission.

GR:AW2 on PC does let you do quicksaves, but the developers decided that was a license to let them make the sequel even harder than the first game. It's frustrating because behind the sadistic difficulty, everything else about the games are spot on great for the genre, so you want to keep playing. (And then there's the "I can't let this game beat me" aspect that has lead many a gamer down the path of madness.)

Good luck, please report from the field with your war stories.

2.5 Hours to beat Yiazmat? That is actually really impressive!

I remember that it took me over 8 hours to beat Yiazmat. I did it in two stints, the first for about two hours and the next for six hours straight. Yiazmat has like 20 life bars and an absolute insane amount of health.

There are a ton of extra bosses in FFXII that are really difficult. Between the hunts and the summons, some of them are really difficult. There is a hunt that is a preparation for Yizamat that usually takes about 2 - 4 hours to beat. Some of the summons do really mean things like prevent you from casting magic or doing physical attacks or having constant status effects on you.

Final Fantasy XII is an amazing game and I'd love to go back and do some of the extra hunts. However, the grind is a bit crazy and the game takes a long time.

Playing the DS remake of Final Fantasy 3 as a 9 year old. I wanted to get into big boy RPGs but I really was not ready. It probably wouldn't be that hard if I played it now but as a kid the concept of games that didnt autosave was still pretty foreign to me, I died twice just trying to beat the game's tutorial dungeon.

Yup. I've thought about how great it would be to get an HD remaster, but then I think about having to do all that over again. I don't think I have the time or patience these days

The other thing that was crazy was the weapon collecting. You could screw yourself out of one of the game's best weapons simply by opening a few random chests early in the game, and some other weapons are only found in really hard dungeons and have like a 5% or less drop rate.

It's no wonder this game had a built achievement system (before achievements even existed) given how difficult everything was. I loved FF XII, but Jesus Christ was it a demanding game. I'm a different gamer now, I might hate it if I played it again now LOL

One could say I'm a veteran of these GR games. The very first one (Gamecube & PC) let you quicksave but if you get shot at *all*, you're dead. GRAW at least lets you take a few hits, and does give you a little bit more health at each checkpoint when you load a game from one. GR 2 on the Gamecube was even tougher, you had a set amount of health here as well, but any death required a mission re-start, no checkpoints.

Don't get me wrong, I love the presentation, tactical options, graphics of this game so far, in fact it reminds me very much of Rainbow Six Vegas. But these checkpoints!!

I'll continue to post progress in the "What Single Player FPS Campaign Are You Playing" thread.

Sunsoft's Looney Tunes game for the Game Boy/Color. Good god that game is hard! I remember having the game as a kid, and it being generally easy, but somehow losing the cart in a move. Found it for $3 at a game store, and picked it up to see if it was as good as I remembered it, and I was surprised to find how difficult it was. I think it took me about 20-30 tries, before I actually beat it.

Doesn't help that the game just gets harder, the farther you get through the game.
