What was the last movie you've seen?

Didn't Pixels start life as a Jack Black project? I seem to remember him a few years ago saying he was doing a movie with a very similar plot...

This is found-footage done right. However, one can't help but lament that for all the myriad of fictional FF produced, if only one tape with undoctored paranormal recording were to be found it would alter our view of the universe as we know it  Anyway the observer effect on quantum behaviour is creepy enough as it is :P

In short: Kinda sorta. It wasn't his project, but one he was interested in.

Luke wrote: Agreed. They took out what made Robocop, Robocop.

And the special effects were actually so much better in the original. That scene in the new one where Robocop is basically a face and a lung was the worst.

Story sucks, cgi sucks, characters suck...Fuck the Robocop reboot up it's robotic ass. Just as stupid and not fun as the Total Recall remake. And while I'm on a roll, fuck video game companies for not giving us enough Robocop games.
I agree that it wasn't up to the standard of the original, but I think too many folks are unable to take the movie on its own merits because of that latent comparison. I mean, what made the original Robocop was lots of splatter and lots of social/political satire. The new one isn't as splatterific, or satirical at all, but it does still try to be a political criticism, and I actually think it does OK, even though it definitely changes the tone. And I still think it's an OK movie.

It would have been much worse had they tried to stick to the original template or storyline, especially after Frank Miller's screenwriting skills took a dump on the series with Robocop 3. Better for them to try something different in tone than to fail at trying to be Paul Verhoeven, IMO.

Fun movie. Basically a very self aware action movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. I love this kind of stuff. The movie is surprisingly artful at times too.

AWESOME cast too. And Reeves actually shows a bit more acting chops here than I thought he had too. Really cool some of the movies they drew from with this movie too, like some John Woo stuff and The Man from Nowhere (LOVE that movie)

I just watched Birdman last night! Man, the editing in that movie is amazing. There are, like, two cuts. That's it. I was very impressed.
Final Fantasy IX is the best one

Luke wrote:And fuck all...PIXELS at one point in time had a great script and now we're getting GROWN UPS THREE, PLUS VIDEO GAME CLICHE'S. I hate, hate to judge a movie by a trailer, but nothing about it was funny, clever, and no joke had any payoff. "It's Donkey Kong" isn't a joke. You're just showing us something.

"It's Pac-Man!". Okay. What's the joke? Spoiler alert, the joke is that there are cars named after the ghosts from the game. Ho ho ho. Pac-Man also chomps his creator. Ho ho ho. It's "we show you shit" humor. I also have a strong feeling Rob Schneider will be in this toilet bowl of a movie and I wouldn't be surprised if the movie contains at least a dozen fart jokes.

Way to screw up a pretty neat premise.

I'm done. For now.
My thoughts exactly. That "Anthology of Interest II" episode of Futurama carried this exact premise much better more than a decade ago.

I'm sure the trailer has all the funniest moments of Pixels, and that's not saying much. Why is Adam Sandler so intent on making bad movies?

In all fairness, when you make a movie starring Robocop and the title of the movie is Robocop, people will compare it to the movie Robocop.

I agree, the reboot is definitely it's own thing but to me it did it's own thing really poorly.

$,$$$,$$$ is my guess.

FIVE EASY PIECES - 1970

If you're a fan of Nicholson and have not seen this movie, do so asap. It's a beautiful film about lives that are always not as beautiful. It's one of many films that centers around a character(s) who try to find their place in life. This film does just that extremely well and lets the viewer form their own opinions.
