Now we can watch Jackie Gleason while we eat!

Hot damn, I love this movie. I don't know if it's because it's the first Jackie Chan movie I watched, or if it's because it's actually one of the better ones, but I love this movie. It has so many great stunts, creative fight scenes, hilarious parts in fights scenes, etc. And the movie's message is timeless: If you piss off Jackie, he will drive a mining truck through your house.

Hadn't watched TITANIC since around 2000. Didn't recall caring for it too much.

Just watched it with my family for the first time in 15 years...
my chest hurts, my eyes are salty and it is taking awhile to recover. I cried balled the last 45 minutes. What a horribly wonderful film.

Star Trek Into Darkness... 6/10 maybe?

I was watching the clock after awhile there. Also just to get this out there, I've always been kind of neutral on Star Trek. I really did enjoy the 2009 movie, but I wonder if it's held up. So I won't rag on this for "not being Star Trek" or anything, but yeah. To me the aesthetics in general really irked me for some reason. What was up with the hilarious lighting? It was like lens flares everywhere. Tons of CGI and that ultra super slick clean sci-fi look that I'm not big on. Overall, it's goofy but all I could really think of while watching this movie was "I hope the new Star Was looks nothing like this", when that probably doesn't even make sense. Or does it?

Wasn't bad, but 90 minutes would have been nicer.

THE PRINCESS BRIDE

Obvious thrown together sets, hamfisted jokes, poor acting, meet cutes, treacherous villains, slapstick humor, a plot a three year old could see unraveling, and almost every cliche' in the bible of movies...

And I love every single second of it. Always will.

Most of the time it feels like watching a high school stage production, but it's done so well and has so much charm that you basically stare at the screen like a goofball loving every bit. The amount of suspension of disbelief in this movie may be at the peak in the history of movies. We obviously know that no one could not be able to tell Wesley from the Pirate. We know that the rodents of unusual size are silly puppets. But we don't care because the movie is soooo much fun.

And what to me is so amazing, is that I just described what "camp" movies are, but BRIDE isn't camp. It's a fairy tale that is somehow believable. And the emphasis on the characters is a true delight. Even snake handling Bible thumpers applaud when the words "I want my Father back you son of a bitch" are spoken.

Love this movie a bit more every time I watch it. Not sure how any one, any one, could not appreciate it.

I watched this a few years back with my sister and her friends. They were all 18-21 at the time, and I was 22.

I was the only one who cried.

Luckily, they thought it was sweet/cute. So, not a terrible night, really.

Easily top 5 movies ever. That movie is so doggone good. Such a classic. The way I describe it is, "I like entertainment (movies, music, games, whatever) that does what it sets out to do", and I think BRIDE is a perfect example of that. It stays true to itself throughout.
Final Fantasy IX is the best one

That's Ebert's first rule to making a great movie, word for word. His second rule is "I ask myself, would I rather watch the cast in a movie, or have dinner with the cast of the movie? If I'd rather have dinner with the cast, the movie failed". Poignant and true.

When I think of the brilliance of THE PRINCESS BRIDE I think about how it's a Grandfather reading a story, which comes off as a Grandfather telling a story. Peter Falk is so much a part of the story, as the story itself.

And this is just my opinion. If someone says "I don't get it", fine by me. But for me the film is like THE GOONIES, STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, and GONE WITH THE WIND, all mixed together and told by your Grandfather.

On a personal note, the movie takes me back. Reminds me of when I was sick and my Grandfather would drop by to check in on me. Kind of like when I watch The Price Is Right, it always reminds me of being home sick as a dog, be it in high school or college. The atmosphere is comforting. Not many films can take you to a "place" but the ones that do...they stick to you like glue.

Moving on... Not this, but next week gives us St. Patrick's Day. Always a HUGE deal at my home. PATRIOT GAMES is a must, but what other films of the Irish type should I place on the venue?

Boondock Saints comes to mind. It's a great film for quoting lines. It's intentionally over the top. Boondock Saints is at the same time kind of a stupid movie and kind of a brilliant movie.

According to Wikipedia it's getting mixed reviews and I don't understand why.
