Indeed, it certainly has all the hallmarks of being a future retro-gem; critically acclaimed yet very under-appreciated, low production run, unique and innovative gameplay, beautiful 2.5d graphics etc

My GF's daughter is turnign 7 next month, and she LOVES the Pokemon games on the DS. These are really nice games for kids. They're not too hard, there's lots of reading practice, pokemon battles are good for strategic thinking, and they just have a nice story. A year ago she was playing them mostly on her own, with us helping to read now and then. These days she's completely autonomous, but we still play together for fun.

If your sister is 8, she should be able to play pokemon no problem. It won't help with coordination though. Dunno what to recommend there. My little girl doesn't like games based on coordination instead of planning.

My little sisters reading is pretty terrible. She was in a french immersion school for a couple years, then we moved, and put her into a public school (with no french)...so shes fairly behind with her linguistics.
The Soul Bubbles game sounds very promising, and strikes me as a game that I'd pick up for her, and end up spending more time with.
All the stores that I have visited have such a limited selection: "are you smarter than a fifth grader", "Hannah montana", and "Bratz" being all that i really see. Whats up with this generation?

How are the Kirby games?

I have two of the Kirby games on the DS. Kirby Canvas Curse might be a little much for an eight year old, but Super Star Ultra would be great for a kid. :)
