It is more than that.

-On higher levels, the enemy agents will shoot more frequently and their bullets will travel faster. They will drop to a knee or assume a prone position to avoid Otto's shots, but cannot jump over low bullets. (Wikipedia)

-During later levels, they become smarter, being able to duck under your bullets - or worse, actually lay down and fire at your feet, making it impossible to shoot them, as you yourself can not lay down on your stomach. The longer you take to complete a level, the more enemies will come down chasing you. (HG101)

-While the game was a milestone when it was released, it certainly hasn't aged well at all with being that there is no real ending. It just gets progressively harder and harder each level and continues until you die, never knowing what those secret documents contain (HG101)

-The bonus is 1,000 points x the level you are on. After 10th level, you will get 10,000 points per level completed. (IGN FAQ)

If it were a "looper" you'd see the same exact patterns and stages time and again, just faster. You don't in EA.

they do both of those things on Stage 1 in the MSX port (1985) that I was playing.

Yup! 30 years of quality.

So it can be beaten. Thanks for that, I can finally be at peace knowing that. I'd love to see those larger boss ships.

Did you try Plex or XBMC on Ouya? can you tell me how it is?

A few years ago I picked up a pretty beaten up Mega Drive 1 with a Master System adapter. Unfortunately I couldn't get it working and just forgot about it.

I remembered that I had it the other day, and although the system is still shot I realised that I now had the means to test out the Master System adapter thanks to my Retron5 (I only have model 2 Mega Drives, so it won't fit those).

The adapter may look worse for wear, but it works great. HDMI Master System games hear I come! Pretty happy with this - it'll be a massive improvement over my Master System, which only outputs in RF.

Well I spent way too long reading that Elevator Action PDF. My Japanese is much poorer than it once was. Doesn't seem that much different than the arcade/Famicom versions, from what I gather. Different controls, but same looping tower and enhanced enemy movement in later levels.

Sounds like noise has moved on anyway?

(this discussion is reminding me of why I thought combining the alphabet/years might not work. 1984 and 1985 are especially tricky).

Yeah I'm not happy about that. I'm not buying a ps4 for a Dynasty Warriors re-skin. However I would have bought a PS3 copy. Oh well.
