The Mexican that reaches out to Saul is the same one that Tuco beats the ever-living snot out of in BB.

And I probably should have worded it is "Borrowed characters" instead "cameos".
Ah. When they met at the salvage yard, and he says something like "Don't forget who you're working for," then Tuco beats him so badly that they have to double back and ask Walt for help? I remember that guy, I definitely didn't remember what he looks like.

Well, if that's the guy, then it's even less of a cheesy plug to BB. They were already using Tuco, and that's Tuco's associate, so it's only natural to use him.

My point though, people are complaining that they're sticking in characters from BB to sell the show on BB's success, and it's corny to do that. I'm arguing that it feels natural to use certain characters, especially Mike. Tuco felt a little shoehorned to me at first, but like I've explained, he might fit into the puzzle really well.

I agree. The only thing that could be construed as a cameo thus far is Tuco, and he was used effectively to continue the story. Also his character got shafted in BB due to contract issues, so the opportunity to see more of him was logical there too.

I'm almost certain we will see Gus at some point. Working in a parking garage, Mike surely isn't on his payroll yet, and since Mike is a big part of Saul's world, I'm sure we'll see his early days with Gus too.

Btw, Walt meant Saul when Badger got arrested. He met Mike through Saul, not the other way around. Mike didn't show up til the last episode of Season 2, and didn't even have a name.

Yeah, I agree.

Ah, OK. It's been a while since I've seen the early seasons of BB. So how did Walt come to know Saul? Oh wait, I think it's coming to me. Did Jesse she one of his BS commercials on TV and they just decided to call him? Ah, that's right. Then at some point Jesse and Walt, wearing masks, took Saul out to the desert. Saul made Walt when he starting coughing.

Yup. Jesse says "You don't need a criminal lawyer. You need a criminal...lawyer".

Badger was the one who called him. We never see the initial contact. It's just sort of assumed that Saul is the go to guy for people like Jesse and Badger. Walt and Jesse arrive at Saul's strip center and flip a coin to decide who goes in.

Worth noting, is that when they take Saul into the desert, he assumes Walt and Jesse are two other people who may want him dead, can't remember the name he mentions. I have a feeling during this show that we will discover who he was in trouble with at that point.

I think the series has kicked off with a bang. I have loved everything about it. I love that it is going to be a character study just like BB was. Jimmy McGill is a very interesting character. I haven't had any issues yet with feeling like they are trying to ride the BB train for ratings. I have a few co-workers who did not watch BB but are hooked on Saul. I think if you take away your knowledge of the previous series and just sit back and watch you'll find it's really done a great job of building its own story.

To the comments about mike and tuco... This is exactly why I wanted to see this show. I want to know more about where these guys came from. How Saul ended up working for and with these very bad (or awesome) people. Gilligan is setting the stage. Hes putting the people in place we're going to get to know as the show unfolds.

And the desert scene was no more ridiculous or over the top than many BB moments. We all know Tuco is nuts, and Jimmy was able to talk him down. Hell yea! I agree 100% with jimmy when he said, "Kid, I'm the best lawyer there is!"

In my opinion, I think this has been a stronger start than Breaking Bad.

That was the best line in the show so far, in my opinion. I was laughing outline when the two skaters were whining in the back of his car. "You're the worst lawyer ever!"

hey man, I said its my opinion, not everyone's. but yea, I don't expect many people to agree. and im giving it a marginal better. I mean BB was amazing, I just think Saul has the potential to be just as good or even better. we'll see...
