Hangmen Also Die!

One has to feel for the Czechs, they were not only given to Hitler on a silver platter, Stalin got them as value-added bonus soon afterwards. The acting is impeccable and considering it was filmed during the war they did a good job of capturing adequate central European characteristics to make the story believable.

Earth Girl's Are Easy

Who ever wrote this script was on a lot of drugs and apparently so were Jim Carey, Damon Wayans and Jeff Goldblum since I couldn't see you considering taking those roles let alone pulling them off unless you were smoking the grade A product

Seriously seeing Jim, Damon, and Jeff prancing around in furry outfits while speaking in an alien language is not something I every expected to see  . Pairing the aliens with an over sexed Geena Davis also made things even weirder.

Years ago when I first got a DVD burner drive, I got this off of Cinemageddon (it was a DVD-rip from the old Paramount DVD) and burned it to DVD. Naturally, because a DVD-rip is compressed from the original AND back then done in a way that messes with its resolution, combined with the fact that was then stretched to the standard 720x480 AND that I played it on a DVD player connected (via component) to an HDTV with a resolution of 1080p, it looked HORRENDOUS.

The movie itself was... good, but it feels more like one of those easily forgettable early post-Friday the 13th slashers that back in the day were being released in bulk every week. While better than many slasher films (House of Death), but when compared to Friday the 13th and Halloween it just falls short.

Still, if you're looking for a Valentines Day horror film... you'll have an easier time doing better than doing worse.

Everyone has a right to disagree. Even if that makes you wrong!

I'm just kidding with ya. I think you and I have very different taste in movies.
Luke wrote:Dialogue; kind of important in movies, yet we get little of it. We do however get a scene of Kevin watching some Native Americans screw while smiling.
I think this comes down to the classic "tell me" vs "show me" dilemma in film. We could have a bit of dialogue wherein Lt. Dunbar says, "Boy, you Indians sure have odd customs," and then Swimming Bird says, "We think you white folks are the odd ones." Instead of telling that with dialogue, this film shows that through facial expressions in an (admittedly) awkward sex scene. Dunbar rolls over and notices two Sioux getting busy. His face conveys that he's caught in disbelief that two people are having sex right next to him. When the two Sioux notice that he's looking, their faces convey that they think he's the odd one for looking. This scene has no dialogue at all.

So which approach is better? That is the classic dilemma. You could be more concise with dialogue, but that doesn't justify the format. On the other hand, Dances with Wolves sometimes "tells" rather than "shows" by using Dunbar's narration in his journal. I think the use of this story device is justified. I also think the movie would have been just as good with no narration at all.

Regarding civil war: I think many good westerns (rightly) connect the end of the civil war to westward expansion and the "Cowboys and Indians" myth. That's probably a bigger discussion beyond the scope of this movie review.

In any case, we'll have to agree to disagree with this film. I look forward to reading your next movie review.

Agreed.

ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES

Rarely do I enjoy movies based off of cancelled television shows. I'm fairly certain that the makers of STARSKY AND HUTCH believed that the average movie goer had an IQ of 75. 21 JUMP STREET had a few good chuckles, but I didn't even know that the sequel existed until seeing it displayed at a Red Box. And BEWITCHED? PU. It's usually either mocking the source material or revamping it.

VALUES simply reuses the source material, which works. It's humor is all schtick, but it's a good schtick that provides some great quips and is actually full of wit. One of my favorite exchanges:

Debbie to Morticia: Well isn't he a lady killer?

Gomez (with a huge smile): Acquitted!

Besides all the gags and some slapstick, there is also a cute and awkward love story between Wednesday and another outcast. Both are vastly different but do share one trait, as they are both not easily accepted.

Great performances all around. Albeit a somewhat kooky movie, it's supposed to be. They're the Addams family after all.

When I was younger I used to love films, all kinds (almost). Now its just not the same. Maybe because when i was younger they were new experiences to me, but by now most movies feel like a repeated story, you kind of know what is going to happen. Either that, or Hollywood stopped making good movies.

I think its the latter because TV shows still engage me.

Off to see 50 SHADES OF GREY. I hope it is as silly as I've heard.

I love the Addams Family franchise (excluding reunion).

My lady made me promise to take her to see 50 shades of grey too. I keep hoping that she'll forget, but no such luck. Looks like I'm going to have to take her after the weather clears.

I hope you find a way out of it as...

50 SHADES OF GREY

The jokes on us, as there is plenty of nudity (full frontal at that) but the sex scenes are mind numbingly boring. The only sex scene that even comes close to being sexy is when the two first have "normal" sex. And that is still a huge compliment as it's a 3 out of 10 of sexiness.

There is no plot, no real character development, the acting is heinous at best which mostly consists of:

1) Showing body parts
2) Biting things like pencils and toast
3) What Lifetime writers would consider S&M to be
4) Sitting and or walking while making an O face

You've had kinkier sex, or masturbated to kinkier porn. This will not turn on anyone unless they have a sweet spot for the main actor or actress, who sports an afro bush. Plus the film is around two hours, with not even half of it being simulated sex.

Everything in the movie is butterfingered. The S&M is lazy, the sex is sleep inducing, and the dialogue...oh boy. When you think the movie couldn't be any more tout, the male lead says "I'm fifty shades of fucked up".

If you have a nipple and hairy bush fetish, see this. If you love seeing people bite things, see this. But if you are looking for a movie to arouse your partner or yourself, Debbie Does Dallas (which I have not seen) sounds like a better choice.

And really...for a movie like this, that advertises it in such a way that it has, I want to see some actual fucking and some actual chemistry and not fake orgasms. I mean, these actors are on top of each other grinding and it feels empty and false. They're already butt naked cheek to cheek, so get it on already. That awful 3000 sequel had more abs and eroticism then this film.

I was hoping that my wife and I would leave the theater feeling a bit naughty, but instead we were laughing about how dumb the movie was; how it was "Steel vs. Grey", the line about fifty shades of fucked up, how the male lead was basically a stalker and rapist, and about the flip phone.

Nipple enthusiasts, you'll love it, so I'll give credit where it is due. Fans of boring sex and Showtime original movies, you might like it. People who want their movie to contain a story, I'm sorry.

1) Showing one's body
2) Crappy sex scenes
3) What lie

Haven't seen it but

"What Lifetime writers would consider S&M to be"

is exactly what I was expecting and that's the perfect quote to summarize it. I envisioned a lot of couples seeing it then going and buying a wal-mart brand leather whip, then having boring sex while sort of not knowing what to do with it.
