I always feel bad for the teenagers that work there and end up getting harassed for it too. Those kids are stuck between a rock and a hard place, and they may be working there because there is nowhere else to work for all we know.
JP1, I think you should have told the manager, "That's funny, you look like a pedophile. Are you trying to make advances towards my daughter by asking about her sexuality?"

Re: When shit hits the fan!
Jeez jp1, that's horrible. I haven't been to Chick Fil A in a while, but I only heard about their contributions to various groups and restrictions on their employees, I haven't heard about harassment of customers. I totally understand your reasoning for not wanting to go back.

Ugh yeah, I know most of this place wouldn't do something like that, but that's always important to remember. Whether we're talking a fast food place with shitty politics or a customer service rep for your ISP, it's important to remember that they likely had nothing to do with whatever it is you're upset about and are likely just trying to make ends meet.Ack wrote:I always feel bad for the teenagers that work there and end up getting harassed for it too. Anyways yeah I don't go there. I doubt I need to explain why.

What really makes me sad about Chik-fil-A is that I really like the taste of their sandwiches and nuggets, but now that I know how the corporation chooses to spend its money, I can't eat there. I know and respect too many LGBTQ folks to give money to a corporation that actively spends profits on quackery that targets them. To me, that's not a political statement (something generally considered somewhat abstract). That's standing up for people I care about. That makes it personal.

I was kind of shocked at how many people actually do.MrPopo wrote:Next you're going to be saying that not everyone in Texas wears a cowboy hat.

I agree with you on this. I'm not making some statement by not eating there, I have loved ones and friends who I would be hurting by eating there. My kids also became aware of their agenda when we were confronted and I won't let them see me support a company that treats people like that. The workers aren't just berated by the public, some of the workers who happen to be LGBTQ or know other folks who are, are treated like shit by their employer because of it. I saw this on a documentary I believe, with interviews of people who had been verbally abused at work. They couldn't quit because they still had to pay the bills.marurun wrote:What really makes me sad about Chik-fil-A is that I really like the taste of their sandwiches and nuggets, but now that I know how the corporation chooses to spend its money, I can't eat there. The fact that they spent money to squash a bill that was meant to stop murder of people simply for their sexual preference says it all I think. I didn't even know that bit, but that shit is messed up.

This is my perspective on it as well. I simply cannot support a privately-held company that chooses to spend its profits in that manner.marurun wrote:What really makes me sad about Chik-fil-A is that I really like the taste of their sandwiches and nuggets, but now that I know how the corporation chooses to spend its money, I can't eat there. Re: When shit hits the fan!
While I agree with prfsnl_gmr, that I do not see this happening in my life time. I do have an emergency plan. My wife's family farm is in a location that is easily defensible and large enough that it could support everyone that is in the area if we swap to crops (its in a valley with only three entryways, all of which can be closed off permanently in less than one day. So the name of the game is to get to the farm. At the farm we have food and water for several months stored up - they lose power a couple times a year, sometimes for up to a week (it has been up to a month). The guys that live on the ridge above us live in bunkers so they know the drill and we can always block off the bridge with things that people cannot just drive through - Caterpillar DB5 bulldozer with a 9ft blade sitting in the middle of the bridge with the batteries pulled out makes for a pretty good blockade for a single car width bridge.
Now did this all come around because we were actively scared of an attack, no. But my inlaws believe that it is better to have a plan than to be caught with your pants down. So you know, it is a similar plan if it looks like we are going to have a really bad ice storm, or another massive flood.
