I'm not surprised though that it's ending -- the lack of physical rewards for gold and platinum last summer might have been a clear indication, we just weren't aware of the sunset.
Probably not - which sucks because I'm nearly platinum for the year already.

I'm thinking Nintendo is doing this to kill off any old game who's points are still valid. I've bought lots of used games with valid codes for less than $5 USD

Rather than lower the value of the games points, like they've done with wii games. They're simply gonna nullify them all across the board.

Better start putting in all those points people!
I don't think this really makes a dent for them. The best value you can get on points redemption is 200 points = one $7.99 SNES VC game. So 50 points (which is pretty much a new release retail) is worth $2.00 in virtual currency for them.

Hey, new offerings of digital games came online to be redeemed with coins, as the old offerings expired last night:

Wii U
Super Mario Brothers 2 - 200 Coins
Excitebike - 200 Coins
Super Metroid - 250 Coins
Super Punch-Out - 250 Coins

3DS
Super Mario Land - 150 Coins
Donkey Kong - 150 Coins
Wario Land 2 - 200 Coins
Legend of Zelda - 200 Coins

To me, Super Metroid seems to be the best value. The game retails for over $100 complete, and carts alone are around $40+

I'll likely get Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out, and Zelda. If there's some sweet new physical items that look quality, I'll think about that. For now, Super Metroid is a sure buy.

Sad for sure but with how they handled the last run of rewards and how much the shop has dropped the good quality and volume of stuff for awhile now I can't say I'd miss it. I feel bad for people who were big into it and spent to get the rewards, especially those buying full price and not used/finding codes/buying codes cheap. I think I have a game or two to register for the 3DS, probably should do it and just see what turns up.

If all else fails I don't remember what I have, but I know I have enough for that NES remix shirt.

I'm one of the people who have been disappointed with Club Nintendo ever since they moved away from offering physical goods to going all digital. Cutting costs makes sense when they aren't rolling in mad profit like they did during the Wii/DS days, so this news doesn't feel that shocking or surprising.

That said, it was still a pretty good program. I got some neat stuff and a bunch of (mostly good) digital games at essentially no cost. My only beef is that North America had extremely limited access to CD soundtracks, which would have been incredible (and affordable) prizes and had been offered in other regions via Club Nintendo. Oh well, c'est la vie!

Those are for the Wii and are not compatible with the WiiU.

Not entirely true.

The Wii U can download and play those games from the Wii Shop Channel while using "Wii mode", so they are fully compatible. But there are some limitations to that mode (ie: you need to use a separate Wii controller when playing the game) so do your research before buying if you aren't sure exactly what I'm talking about.

You can also choose to upgrade to Wii U versions via the eShop later if desired - it costs $1.50 per game to do that, but does offer some added benefits (save states, use Wii U gamepad as a controller).

Heard about this just this morning. I snagged the smash bros posters, but what to do with my other 1200 points

Oh damn, didn't see that. Still, I'd get the Wii version and pay the $1.50 as opposed to shelling out $40 for a copy of Super Metroid physically. Didn't notice that those were labelled as Wii.

Edit:

I hope Earthbound becomes a Platinum Reward offering again. Would be a nice consolation.
