I'd go with Samsung or Sony..

I went with a 1080p LED DLP HDTV and have not been disappointed..

I would go with an LCD or DLP...

If LCD is the way you go I would wait till new LED LCD TV's from Samsung come out on the market.. they look incredible from what I saw at CES

I'm suprised no one's mentioned HD projectors. I bought a Sanyo z3 from B & H Photo back in 2005 for $1700. It does displays 720p and accepts everything else.

I can't explain how awesome that projector has been. My friends and I are all into AV equipment and they're always amazed by how big and clear the image is on my z3. There are downsides to going with a projector (bulbs can burn out, you need a white wall) but when I'm playing COD4 or Burnout Paradise on 110" its hard to care.

Here's a link for B&H Photo. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... bmit+Query

What's the response time like on that? Have you noticed any lag issues on old consoles, such as running Super Mario RPG and doing the timed hits (especially the super jump)?

Only problem with HD projectors is their output at this point. Sanyo is the market leader in overall LCD projection market thats for sure. That little Sanyo is quite nice but I believe it was only something like 1000-1200 lumens. Sure it has superior contrast and color compared to a brighter and cheaper SD LCD projector meant for classroom usage. Problem is whenever ANY light is allowed into the room all those specs go out the window.

I agree with most, go for the top tier Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp and do your homework. Year in and out every manufacturer makes new models, and even the best hardware manufacturers have off years. IMO Panasonic is the best but you pay for it. LG actually might be the best bang for the buck in the indusr

I have a Series 6 40" Samsung - it is incredible - I dont notice any visual lag at all - I actually am also after getting a (1920x1200) 24" Samsung LCD as my PC monitor and it's great - I have to get one of those rotating stands thought - I cant find any Samsung ones - can you use generic ones? - I obviously want to rotate for rockin some vert-scroll-shmup-MAME action :p

Samsung
Panasonic
Sony
Pioneer
Hitachi
Mitsubishi

I have a 50" Samsung HLT5087S 1080p DLP (bulb version... grr..) and it's been flat out amazing for the two + years I've had it now. No discernible game lag to speak of, excellent picture quality, no possibility of burn in, no screen aging, excellent color and black levels.

DLP is the way to go IMO, but Samsung is getting out of the DLP business. Mitsubishi's laser DLP's are looking pretty awesome, but they are some serious $$$ if I remember right.
Systems: Atari 2600, Atari Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Genesis 3, Genesis 2, 32X, Sega CD (model 2), Saturn (model 1), Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox (Modded), Xbox 360, GameBoy, GBA SP, Game Gear, PSP... always adding more

DLP is a method used in projection TVs. Some projection TVs are LCD-based, some LCoS based, and others are DLP-based.
