Like retrosportsgamer, my goal is to buy no new/used games in 2015. My backlog is out of control and I have spent waaay too much money in recent years on this hobby.
I really want to try and commit to playing through at least some of the stuff I already have. I could probably go a few years and not even make a real dent...
I play a lot of newer games too, some of them I just received for Xmas and my Bday. So I will be buying the maps and the season passes for for a couple new games I already have, but nothing else. I should be able to fund this by selling off or trading in a few games. The goal is $0 spent.
After this hiatus, I plan on staying at least a year behind on new game releases, possibly more.

Jayson, how big your collection? It would be awesome to see someone achieve this if they are big collector and have an always growing backlog. Definitely would be an inspiration for myself.

Collect less, play more.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
I always thought gaming was all about buying games and looking at the pretty boxes and carts on the shelves while thumbing through instructions and guides. We're actually supposed to play these things? All this talk of less buying/collecting and more gaming has me perplexed.

My post wasn't meant to be a competition by any means - just wanted to also answer 8bit's question.
Good luck!

This was absolutely me until last year. Before last year I had spent a small fortune on this "hobby", no joke.
But last year I created a gaming budget. And in doing so got my spending totally under control. Now all of us have different incomes and different financial responsibilities in our lives, so what each budget comes down to is a case by case basis. The key is to choose that magic weekly "gaming allowance" and stick with it week after week. It totally works. You still get to feed the beast (inner collector) but not go broke buying mountains of games you will never have enough time to play. The guilt goes away but the games keep coming, just a bit slower than before.
Sorry if I came off preachy, this is just a subject I struggled for a long time with personally.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Retro Gaming Goals & Resolutions - 2015
Ok, so goals:
1) Complete the alphabet marathon!
2) Collect and play more Genesis/CD games. Really slacked here last year.
3) Complete the 32X collection, damn it! Again, I totally let this slide last year. I will do it this time.
4) Beef up my PC Engine library at least a little bit. My want list for this system is large, and I rarely pick up games for it.
5) Beat 1 RTS game. I've played a couple, but never finished one before.

(and yes ff1 will be beat, I have a memory card on the way just not on the plate to be played until at least september or october considering all the others I have to play first)
why do you have to play the others first?
Because ff1 isn't as old as aback log item as quest for camelt and toy story 2 plus a bunch of other games I own....I want to beat it but not before taking the time to eliminate some of the older titles in the log...
I should clarify though, ff1 is a game I do want to beat but the other titles I've started(and restarted many many times) that I've had since i was little are just more of a priority than a game I got years after most of them. I have a bad habit of starting games, and not finishing them(seems like something comes up and I never manage to get back to the game until days or months later and by the time it turns into months it's like what's the point of continuing where I was at in this one?). So yeah this year will hopefully become the major break to that trend hopefully no matter what I have to do. As far as I know these are the games I have intentions of finishing first before I make it to ff1(spoilered to keep the post length down):
I'm a little ashamed of that list and there's probably a few more i could add to the list but I think for the sake of brevity I'll keep it that short and I want to beat at least 4-5 titles off that before even attempting ff1 again. Plus there's still the matter of lunar and grandia which I'd started for the together retro's which I plan on finishing first too since I'm already knee deep in both(and had been for months/years anyways)
