it'll be similar to a PC running Linux... only different is the repositories will be limited due to lack of support and a lot of software will bugger up on it. It'll be good for setting up maybe web surfing and the sort on your TV

Ever try to read small fonts found all over the web on a television? Oh GOD!

And don't give me this 1080p shit... who out there really owns a 1080p? Who out there own 720p LCD panels? Not a whole lot. Personally I could tell you I know of 2 people of the hundreds here in south florida that do. ME and my buddy Charlie. (let me just say CRT 720p may be high res, but the picture is still kinda hazy... check it... hook your computer to it buggers). So yeah, .05% of the masses is actually going to utilize this feature? not even that.

Word is that Linux on PS3 runs the same as it would on a PC.

Yeah uh... 720p and 1080i HDTVs? Output small text just fine. I own a 720p/1080i CRT and small text looks FINE. And PC's on a CRT monitor don't use HD unless your CRT accepts DVI-A/DVI-I signal, because even the component output from most video cards is borked.

number one, DVI-A is basically just VGA. There really is no difference. Considering they are both analog, they will look exactly the same, long as you don't get a cheap ass VGA cable. Also, I know of only two computer monitors that have a DVI-A connection. The IBM P260 and the IBM P275. VGA looks fine for text. On my 27" 720p LCD HDTV, i can read small text fine with VGA. It looks great! Component and VGA will look pretty much the same tho, considering they are really on the same level of quality. Also, most CRT monitors can go well past 1080p, so technically alot of people could actually play at 1080p, granted it would have to be through VGA like the 360.
number two, DVI-I isn't a signal. It's a cable/connector that supports both DVI-A or DVI-D. This is why most graphic cards have DVI-I, to keep compatabiloty to a maximum. I also believe the DVI-A part is used in the DVI->VGA adaptors included with some graphics cards. Not sure, tho it seems likely.

Tho, on TVs with HD, it will still look a little "hazy", as you said, but it is still very readable. Mainly has to do with the source more than the TV me thinks. Hell, I bought my TV for 600 bucks, so even if the ATi Xillion they stuck in it is only so-so, HD still looks clear.

Oh yeah I forgot about that gundam game. Okay I kinda sorta want one.

No you don't.
Lmao. That thing has to be the worst launch game in history. That thing didn't even look like it was a PS2 game. The xplay review was hilarious!

No. Underneath all that shit, buried, you will find another turd -- Kabuki Warriors. How soon we forget?

Yeah it will run like Linux on a PC... Linux runs like Linux anywhere it goes. That doesn't mean the repositories and architecture specific stuff will be ported en mass. Take a look at the Power-PC Linux scene (macintosh), the support is nothing like the x86 scene. It looks and works just like x86 Linux, but there are still a lot of things that are different.

As for televisions. It all depends on the TV as I was saying. LCD tends to look good, plasma I've never dealt with, CRT on the other hand tends to waver between decent all the way to horrible shit. 4 times out of 5 it is leaning toward the horrible end of the spectrum. (and I am referring to the DVI connection)

@metaleggman - as metal says, it will look hazy on CRT. And actually it is the TV and not the source. TVs are built with different standards in mind, it isn't expected for you to be reading small font on a TV so they usually skimp on certain factors for this reason.

A little comparison you can use to judge this. Compare the price of a 24+ inch CRT computer monitor to a 40+ inch television... why would a 40+ inch HDTV be the same price as a 24+ inch computer monitor? Oh yeah... cause your losing something!
