It's pretty "hardcore". Hate to use that terminology, but it is brutally difficult and unforgiving in a classic nes meets snes Contra sort of way.

The amount of cheap deaths within the game is bad/great/. This is a game you need to memorize to beat. And it's not like Ninja Gaiden where you can run n gun if you know what's next, as Contra 4 requires tactical pacing. It's a challenge for sure, but I'm enjoying it.

Looks (assumptions a plenty) like the game plus the unlockables makes this a must own for the DS.

But yeah. Hard as nails.

Oh, and turn "voice" off. Contra does not require catch phrases.

Awesome. I am glad that you are enjoying it, and your impressions mirror mine. The game is just a love letter to the classic Contra games, and the bonus features are outstanding. (You can even play as the "Jimbo" and "Sully" from the Contra III manual! For that, you absolutely have to keep the voices on!)

It has been a while since I played it, but it was the second game I beat on my then-new Nintendo DS. (The first was Elite Beat Agents.) I have been in love with the system ever since then.

Love it, and I can't wait to get to the unlockables, but it will take me some time/ possibly until 2016 unless I make a serious effort.

Small screen, nearly impossible game = trouble for me. Not impossible, actually great, but time consuming and all out frustrating.

Would totally recommend Contra 4 to all game players. be them retro gamers or not.

Although it is a bit "Rush N' Wait, N' Pause, N' then Attack!!" it's still a thrill.

Picked up the Killzone trilogy today for $5 so I decided to run through the first one since I've never completed it. I remember why i never finished it now it's a linear drag with repetitive environments, poor direction, slow/clunky movement, weapons with the worst accuracy I have ever seen even the snipers default weapon isn't accurate at medium range :P, and pretty sub par graphics even with the "HD Remastering". Kind of reminds me how I felt playing Resistance the first time. Anyways I'm almost through with the game and I'm really interested to see how things improved with 2 and 3. Should only have another hour or two to go if I can get past the BS grenade launcher enemies who have been destroying me with their super human accuracy and insane splash damage.

Put two hours into Dawn of Mana last night, so far I'm impressed with it. Beautiful graphics, excellent music, responsive controls, a complex combat system with lots of options, and even quality voice acting. The Havok physics are no issue to deal with, the camera isn't a problem for me. So far the complaints I've read from reviewers about this game have not been the real life situation. Looking forward to playing it some more tonight.

Playing Child of Light on PS4 and I think it's amazing.

I'm not into poetry at all so I probably don't appreciate the game to it's full value but I really like the combat system, the platforming aspect and the awesome graphics.

I've only played about a half hour of Sunset Overdrive since I bought it so I jumped back in last night. I think I'm definitely souring on new action/adventure games. There's just nothing that's THAT original anymore. The game is funny enough, the visuals are bright and colorful, but it's the same old "Hey go to this circle on the maps and pick this item up!" stuff, or "Hold off the monsters until X happens!". Plus the whole grinding on rails while shooting things just isn't that great a mechanic. You're just struggling to face the right way and aim the whole time.

I think I'm just going to stay away from 3rd person action games unless they have heavy RPG elements. Like this game for example. There's just nothing in it that's vastly different than Dead Rising, Prototype, Infamous, on and on.

It's the Christmas season; so, I am playing:

It is an exceptionally easy - but somehow not completely terrible - 2.5D platformer based on a 1970 stop-motion television special. I just completed the "One Foot In Front Of The Other" level, and I am actually looking forward to finishing up the game and unlocking all of its rudimentary bonus features. (In other words, it was well worth the $1 I paid for it!)

Started up Killzone 2 and it seems to have fixed just about everything that was wrong with the original. I still find it kind of boring though and the weapons while more accurate still don't feel right. Maybe it's just because I'm playing on hard mode but the enemies are a big old pain in the ass. Enemies are bullet sponges that take half a clip to kill and their tactics really abuse the system. Either they charge you with knifes or shotties which are an insta kill on hard or they hide in cover and blind fire with insane accuracy. Best thing is if they get in cover and blind fire they hardly ever expose themselves so you have to shoot at their wrists for about a minute before they go down :P.

Anyways I'm going to see if there is an option to bump it back to normal so I can maybe enjoy the experience without experiencing a cheap death every 10-15 minutes. It didn't have the option to switch difficulty in the in game menu so I'm praying that I don't have to completely restart the campaign since I'm 4-5 hours in.
