Just caught up (36 episodes DVR'd during the holiday marathon) after starting the show in September (syndication). We watched the midseason finale this afternoon.

After a strong half of the season, this episode was disappointing. Had a different feel and style to it and was boring.

I agree, most the episode felt like filler.Jmustang1968 wrote:After a strong half of the season, this episode was disappointing. Had a different feel and style to it and was boring.
Re: The Walking Dead tv series
I for one was glued to the set.
Thought the execution of foreshadowing in the first two minutes well excellent. I was sold on the fact that Noah was going to commit suicide, but as soon as Tyreese said "I'm going in first" I knew he was a goner.
Thought how the show was a tribute to his character was great. Good homage to a good character.
The only let down was the huge absence of Carl Poppa. Der dee der dee der.
Still, I really enjoy the fact that the show continues to be different every week. One week it is pure action, another pure horror, and then this week we had a story about the reevaluation of life. Ty gave up on life as he was spent, and I found that sad, but can relate. Sometimes we all want to give in to our troubles and I found this episode to be very poignant at pointing that out.
Not many shows can pull that off without feeling cheesy. Also love the fact that this episode was so insightful that it had my friends and I asking "When do you give up?.
I'd give it B+

I actually wasn't a fan of this episode, but I can't fully put my finger on why. I think part of it was the filter and lighting they used on some of the foreshadowing, it just made it not work as well for me. Though, it was far from the worst episode, and having both the shoveling of dirt at the beginning and end gave it an appropriate feel, the "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" idea coming full circle.

So much visual symbolism as well.
Loved the terrible blood covering a beautiful sketch as a metaphor as how the once beautiful world is now covered in blood.
Eww, and all those torsos.

I keep thinking... that is not right. There was something up with the fact that there were so man torsos right? Or am I over thinking it. Normally the walkers are not so nice and careful at carving their prey.Luke wrote:So much visual symbolism as well.

You're not over thinking at all. Things will tie together, or they won't. That's what I love about the show as you don't know what to expect.SpaceBooger wrote: There was something up with the fact that there were so man torsos right? Or am I over thinking it. Think the medium of tv may have fudged up how great this episode was. Symbolism, callbacks, foreshadowing, torture, solace, regret, redemption, twists...
I mean, To Kill A Mockingbird is boring as watching your grandmother fall asleep while watching an episode of Bonanza, but that doesn't make it a bad show. Wes Anderson has become a God for making boring movies that have eloquent and quirky content.
