Game of the year contender for me

The combat is better than the Batman games because of the abilities and upgrades unique to this game(just don't get that awful vault stun upgrade it's more of a downgrade than an upgrade). It's like the Arkham style combat with cool new abilities layered on top of it, some of which would be a welcome addition to the next Arkham game. The variety of bad ass animations Talion has in combat is awesome too. Nothing like rolling over the back of an enemy getting ready to get back up and slicing his head off before your feet touch the ground again.

The Nemesis system may go even deeper than just captains and war chiefs. I snuck by a group of nobody, generic orcs and overheard one say, "The Gravewalker tried to burn me, but I was too fast for him!" After which I promptly slaughtered them, making sure to toss one of them in the campfire

The characters are cool (Ratbag is hilarious and Talion makes for a likable hero)

The way the reactive AI, environmental hazards, wild beasts, Batman style combat, archery ability, wraith abilities, enemy strengths, weaknesses and fears, along with the Assassins Creed style stealth merge together make for a game where any number of interesting things can happen any time you encounter enemies. There's some great Mark of the Ninja like terrorize abilities in the game too like "brutal" stealth kills. Sometimes just brutally killing a strong captain or war chief is enough to make a group of enemies flee

3 warchiefs down, about 5 or 6 story missions done, and more captains killed than I can remember, and still not dead yet 8)

I have no nemesis yet, though I have had one or two repeat encounters with enemies I killed before or forced to retreat from fighting me. On my Sauron's army screen two captains I've defeated are shown as heads on a pike surrounded by weapons. I wonder if those are enemies I've killed permanently.

So anyone got a chance to try the 7th gen version? I found a video and it kinda looks... rough. I don't mind the lesses graphics (i mean this is a 8 year old system) but the stiff animations of the orcs, the lip sync being really off and the screen tearing are turn offs to me.

Still is just one video, and if the screen tearing is not present and is just something of the recording i could play this.

My problem is less with how the game looks and performs on the last gen (which isn't great but, as you said, 8y/o hardware) but more with the fact that it doesn't have the Nemesis system which is really the meat of the game and what makes it unique. Without that it would be a simply okay Arkham clone.
Older. Not wiser.

As far as i know the nemesis system is in this version, according to some comments there are less variety of model for the captains and maybe they hade to change a few things since the developers themselfs said they would have to make a few cuts to make it work.

Also aparently they didn't give review copy's to the journalist since i can't find a review, at least in the most popular sites, IGN, Gamespot, etc.

While initial impressions were 'fantastic' the game kind of drags later on and gets repetitive. My major problems... spoilers***
-the story blows (which is a pretty big achievement considering the mainline LotR story itself is just adequate)
-the Nemesis system thing doesn't get implemented until near the end of the main story line. By the time you get the ability, you've screwed around and killed a lot of orc captains/chiefs. The appeal to mess with them isn't really there anymore at the end of the game.
-No final boss encounters. QTE shit. And this is coming from someone who loves Shenmue. I don't mind QTE's... but I kind of expect some epic final boss battle in fantasy games and didn't get anything but an interactive cut-scene.
I still had a lot of fun but my copy is going to gamestop. This is definitely more of a rental/buy-at-half-price type of game. A good time waster but not a game you'll want to play again.

Really enjoying just taking on the Captains. I haven't touched any of the campaign yet but I've already put nearly 10 hours into the game. I don't know, the 'catch-em-all' element of it has me hooked.

So are the 7th gen versions really as crappy as I've been hearing or is this console war fanboy nonsense?

Well since the first gameplay footage i posted there's a walkthrough on youtube and so far from it looks playable (keep in mind this is a open world game and in like you should hear the experience of users that have played at least 20 hours to make sure this gameplay is about 6 hours so far and im sure they are patching the game as the time goes)
